I'm surprised how much I like all these looks of socks with booties. I think you had one previous post with a pic and I liked that also. I'm tempted to try this look myself even if it isn't the most popular look. Socks can be like scarves, they come in all colors and prints, and they aren't too expensive. I love the idea of a simple outfit with booties, cropped or rolled jeans and a sliver of some interesting socks showing. I'm with Unfrumped in thinking that the socks need to look polished and high quality.

I agree, and mostly am thrilled that there is at least some "sock love" out there.
I am not able to do skinny cropped/rolled so those looks and slivers are not my problem. I like them on others, though.

What I became more attuned to is that I like a bit of luxe-looking sock if it's likely to show much, so with some exceptions like long bootcuts with ankle boots and I wear my standard Gold Toe black knee socks or similar.
It might be thin or thicker, but I don't want it to look scruffy, or a bad color, or faded. Something rich, soft, either neutral or color.

I agree, there are so many factors to think about when wanting to achieve flattery with this look of socks and booties. I think socks that blend in with booties and jeans is a must if you want to achieve a lengthening effect. Those with long legs and short torsos would carry off more contrast for sure. I found this look #1 where you see just a sliver of sock and it is of a similar depth of tone to the boots and is most likely leg lengthening compared to #2, but in #2 the jeans and socks are of similar colour.

I personally like to see about 2"-3" of sock with a lowish height boot and skinny jeans. Sock could be toned to match either boot or jeans to get the desired effect.

Have been searching for more about wearing booties and socks, actually lace boots and lace up ankle boots. Fund this from someone named Merrick-photos on Merrick Art and Pinterest. She says it is ok if the socks are over leggings or very skinny skinnies. her whole thing is low contrast and no bulk. Bulk is very bad. says things like "not too much Down There--like we all have ankles like tree stumps. Also says keep socks short and hems above knees when wearing booties and socks with skirts. Otherwise legs look short. Also another comment on the site is do not roll strainght or wider leg jeans as wider rolls make legs look short.

Below are two photos she calls perfect. Is #2 flower pot?

And my take on all of this, including my other post about cuffed jeans, is do your own thing!! We all have different leg lengths, different problems like big calves, skinny ankles, or whatever--so JUST do what feels right for you, and looks right to you--when in doubt post photos or ?'s on here,,,
