Rachy, Mr SF and I feel very luxurious in Montreal. It is a whole different world here.
La Ped, I am enjoying the people watching as well. Skinny jeans are everywhere. It is hard to find anything in the mainstream stores that is not skinny jeans. Yesterday, we went out for a long walk and brunch to the Mile End area. We ate at the Arts Cafe. Quite a few women had on cropped wide-legged pants and cropped sweaters. I was covered in fleece. Those boots from Pajar are pretty nice. I found that the Maguire store had all the sizes in stock plus some sizes in brown and blue. The brown and blue are not online. Sizing is tricking with them.
Karen, I find spending a month in one place gives me a chance to really explore the city. San Francisco is an amazing place. Two weeks would be wonderful.
Cardiff Girl, I guess I am allergic to alpaca. :( Oh well. Now I know.

What a great tradition. My family has two weeks in a lovely timeshare that they never use so DH and I spend a couple weeks a year in SAn francisco and do much the same thing with lots of long walks, museum visits restaurants and a few shows or movies. But we usually break our 2 weeks up into 2 or 3 trips. I may have to think about your approach next year.

I love those green cords - they will look fabulous on you. I will look for the mascara. I have had good luck with Origins Fringe Benefits which texstyle recommended About a year ago when I asked a natural looking mascara question. I like that it stays on but removes with simply water and a washcloth.

Great trip report! We go to MTL a few times a year, mostly to visit family and hit one or two kid friendly museum exhibits. I never manage the time for clothes shopping, but do love the people watching. When we went in late November, I noticed LOTS of black fashion backpacks, both very streamlined types and more lux versions with bright gold hardware/designer logos/etc. Lots of skinny jeans paired with snow boots, but quite a lot of looser fitting tapered jeans as well, often worn with work boots/combat boots (think Doc Marten or Red Wing). I saw one brave young women wearing a pair of dad sneakers with cropped, acid-wash jeans (no socks) -- brrr. Predominant coat silhouette is a long, tailored puffer. I noticed the corduroy trend mostly on men, along with lots of lace-up work boots (again, the classic Red Wing style). Saw a few men in impeccably tailored full suits, even though it was the weekend. :)

So sorry the alpaca didn't work out. I've had trouble with that fiber, too. Seems it can be more of an irritant than wool or cashmere. It doesn't contain any lanolin, so is often marketed as hypoallergenic, but depending on the quality it can have "secondaries" or guard hairs that feel very itchy against delicate skin, even though you don't notice them with your hands.

I LOVE the Maguire Rachel boots but they're already sold out in my size this year. Pajar has a similar style in their Heritage Collection, but it's even more expensive. https://pajar.com/collections/.....ducts/faye

Those Avene products look good, and I will have to check out the La Roche Posay mascara; I have a very hard time finding eye make-up that doesn't irritate my eyes or eyelids.

Wise words Jenni. I have become more patient and picky in my shopping. I am also more insistent in waiting for the perfect or near perfect piece. I have been looking for winter boots that are nice looking, warm and comfortable for a few years. They may come my way this year and they may not.
YLF and Angie have taught me to be PPP. My wardrobe is much more functional than it was preYLF.

I like how you are a picky shopper. I am becoming more so and it is serving me well. I agree one can miss out on some things, but then sometimes in the past when I have got something that I "had" to have I don't end up wearing it that much. What's with that? Now I sort of take it that the universe didn't mean me to have it, and cope with it being gone that way. And when I wait and wait, if the item is still available, it has tended to work out well because I had really mused over the item and how it would suit my wardrobe.

Greyscale, I will have to check out the AG mom jeans. Thanks for the tip. The Gaps around here are very sad. I am giving jeans shopping a rest for now. I will wait until Florida for my next installment.
Suz, shopping in Montreal is so much fun. One of my favourite cities to explore. Very cold though.

I adore your Montreal shopping trips and the considered way that you add to your wardrobe when you are in the city.

Plus, no sales tax on clothing there, right? Much better than Ontario.

I love all your Finds for you. Too bad about the Alpaca scarf, though. I have similar problems with certain fibres, although alpaca is okay for me if it is a woven blend in a coat.

Style fan, what a great idea to spend a good stretch of time in the same place each year. I’m homesick for New England and I wonder if I could work out something like that in the future.

I love the orange scarf color!

I’ve also had luck with ‘mom’ jeans from the Gap and a label Agolde that’s sold at Aritzia.

I like the idea of being able to carefully look, try on, consider and decide about an item over a few weeks. I suppose one runs the risk of the item selling , but it makes the purchase all that more special if you are able to make it . Those green cords will be perfect for you - what a gorgeous colour . And sorry to hear about the alpaca incident I'll have to try that mascara too .....

Too bad about the alpaca scarf - glad Mr sf can wear it. I was in Montreal for a long weekend 15 years ago in early December and was impressed by 1) how frigid it was (and I’m used to cold being from New England) and 2) the huge supply of lovely warm hats, scarves, gloves etc. Plus it’s a wonderful city in general. Glad you found some things that work for you including products to soothe your face. It sounds like you are a picky shopper which is a good thing!

Every year Mr SF and I come to Montreal for 4 to 5 weeks around mid November to mid December. We spend most of our days doing Yoga, walking and enjoying the city. I also do some shopping. I live in a small rural town with limited shopping opportunities.

I have one week left and I have done a lot of research. I am still considering a couple of items. So far I have bought the following items:

1/ Orange Scarf - mine is cotton and is not from COS. It is the same colour as find from COS.
2/ Chocolate Brown Scarf - this was a fail. It is alpaca and my face exploded. Mr SF is now wearing it.
3/ Denim Sailor Pants (Citizen Vintage) - These are a similar cut to the Jesse Kamm pants. I still want the Jesse Kamm ones. However, these are a substitute until next year.
4/ Lole fleece lined leggings - a necessity in Montreal.
5/ Hue no bind knee highs - the only ones I can wear

I am still looking for warm boots that look nice and are comfortable. There are a couple of candidates. Maguire (Rachel) in Chocolate Brown is one (see picture) and two others that are made in Montreal.
I am also considering a pair of green cord sailor pants (Citizen Vintage).
I was hoping to find one or two warm sweaters that were tailored or more close fitting. No luck. I may end up ordering the cashmere from Everlane.

I made a few changes to my skincare routine after the incident with the alpaca scarf. My face was on fire and bright red. I had some cream for eczema from the derm but I needed more. I bought Avene cleanser for redness and Avene cream for redness. I had used the cream before. I was very impressed. Very soothing.
I am also using LaRoche Posay mascara. No irritation to my eyes and it actually does something to my lashes!! I love it.
