certainly a treasure!

any type of pepper - we do it with jalapeno and anaheim and hungarian.

fry 6 slices of bacon. in food processor, add 1 block of cream cheese, bacon, squeeze 1/2 lemon juice, 2 cloves garlic, lots of fresh parsley.1/2 the peppers length wise and stuff. bake.

or you can use 1/2 lime with cilantro.

not waist friendly but really good!!!
lol. we had ours one night for happy hour in the garage - we needed change of scenery - lol.

my mom used to make these delicious stuffed peppers with ground beef rice and tomato sauce!

Our cookbook is Meta Givens. I’m not sure what edition; the first edition was 1940-ish. I found myself a copy, so there are two.

My dad tho was the big chef of the family and he was French-style all the way. We have A LOT of Jacques Pepin.

My personal fave that I give out is ‘French Cooking in Ten Minutes.’ It’s all the codified techniques in a nutshell.

JAileen, my moms stuffed peppers had rice and ground beef! If I’m honest, i was not a fan....

MsMaven, my mother has a cook book that has the same markings, ie food stains on the family favorites, pages that just automatically open. It’s not as old as your family heirloom, but its recipes are laid out Exactly them same, 3 or 4 to a page, short concise how to written paragraph instead of outline...and some hand written notes, some cutting recipe in half, some with substitutes etc

I have 3 editions of ‘The Betty Crocker Cookbook’. The first edition is from 1950 - the same one I learned to cook from as a kid, was bought second hand in my 20’s and has marginalia in script remarkably like my mother’s! As a kid, I loved the recipes that had stories attached - like the one for oatmeal cookies (#2). The recipe for ‘Lemon Cake Pudding’ is easy and delicious. I’ve been using the newest edition (3rd book in #1) which I got from DS#2 Christmas 2019 quite a bit since I got it, but I go back to the earliest book for cookies and cakes, and the 2nd for pies.

i have some good ‘process’ books like ‘Joy of Cooking’ and ‘Cook with Jamie’. I have my maternal Grandmother’s recipe cards, but keep my own favourites in a binder (#4).

When MIL died, I got her bread pans and biscuit cutters - since no one else wanted them and I have my Grandmother’s pastry cutter and serrater #5.

My sister took most of Mom’s old recipe books. One from WWII era is full of recipes that did not include rationed items. Her favorite was “Eggless, Milkless, Butterless Cake.” Be sure you keep Christmas and other holiday recipes. I wish I had the sugar cookie recipe.

I loved my mother’s stuffed peppers. Once, I asked for them for my birthday dinner. She was quite surprised. My mother’s had ground beef and rice I think.

The other day I made a NYT recipe that was easy and pretty good: cut up an onion and two bell peppers, of different colors, in pieces about one square inch. Toss in oil and roast in a hot oven until they have some browning. Meanwhile, with a kielbasa sausage (I use turkey), cut the sausage in narrow pieces *almost* all the way through, and lay on top of onion and pepper mixture, for another 20-30 minutes. Pretty, easy and tasty!

Ooh, that is so neat! I love looking at old cookbooks. I remember perusing my grandmothers many years ago. You could tell the ones that she used a lot by the splatter on the pages.

Mr. M brought home some large red and yellow peppers. What should we do with them? We had the same idea--stuffed peppers. He went to look at recipes online, while I tried to remember what my Mom had put in her stuffed peppers. They were a favorite of mine, although it's been ages since I cooked them.

I remembered Mom's old cookbook, which she always had. I had put it in a corner of the bookcase and pulled it out. Yes, a recipe, but not the one she used to make, which I think contained leftover ham.

Memories. She kept the cookbook stashed next to our big old tube radio. The copyright date is 1938. You can tell what some of our favorite recipes were. Cake, candy, icebox pudding anyone?
