Today is very similar to yesterday for me. We hit the grocery store today.
Born Concept sandals
lace edged leggings
denim A-line skirt
Banana Republic Top
gold wire wrapped necklace
http://www.flickr.com/photos/c.....555459720/
I really love the leggings under a dress/skirt thing. I don't worry if I have to bend over the freezer to fish out the last bag of frozen peas, run across the park to rescue a kid, or worry about gusts of wind. Heck, I don't even worry about how I get out of the car in them LOL

I'm excited to see this thread. I love getting ideas from other MOTG. Mine are young (3 and 1) so I definitely have to consider a lot of issues when it comes to dress. I'll come back and post some outfits later!

We spent the day at the park today- like we do every Thursday. My kids are in their double digits now, so I don't have to worry about being on the actual playground. I do need something comfortable for the weather, though. Today it was really nice, so I wore my Born Concept sandals, dark wash wide leg jeans, a white tank under a coral button bown, and my shell bracelet:

Thanks for the kind words, ladies. I really didn't/don't mean for this to be all about me. My conviction is that "happy cows make better milk." And when I look good, I feel good, and I'm better able to serve my family. I refuse to let myself go...I guess I'm just stubborn that way. And I want to be able to dialogue with other style-conscious mommies, and learn and have fun. Anyway...

Today, I took my kids to a children's museum along with my mom group.

Again, it was indoor play, crafts, snacks/breastfeeding, mommy chat. So, I wore an orange banded halterneck top, freshly washed dark clams, gold gladiator sandals, gold hoops.

http://i664.photobucket.com/al.....C02996.jpg

Don't worry, next week, our group is going outside. We're meeting at an outdoor mall to hang at the play area, splash pad, and food court. So, I've got some "homework" to do! :-)

In the meantime, let's see some outdoor outfits. I live in a really hot climate, and my kids are very young, which can be outdoor prohibitive. But they are growing quickly and getting more active everyday. So, I'm very interested in seeing what other style-conscious mommies are sporting for their outdoor playtime activities.

You all rock!

Inside play, errands, etc. is an easy wardrobe solution for me.

What's tougher for me is outdoor time. If dedicated hiking I wear that 'adventure uniform'. But at the park I'm not always comfortable in my white jeans and platform slingbacks!

anne -- you look very chic in that outfit! Love the boots. Hope the playdough gets out.

Here's what I am wearing today. I taught music to 2nd and 3rd graders today, so I had to wear clothes that fit my teaching criteria:
- Has pockets (for pitch pipe and other random things)
- Allows easy movement (dancing, marching, etc)
- Won't show certain body parts (I need to sit on the ground, bend over, etc.)
- Is comfortable

http://farm3.static.flickr.com.....a3e1cf.jpg
- Stewart + Brown dress
- Old Navy leggings
- Cole Haan thong sandals
- Silver necklace (gift)
- Baby G watch (I need a timer/stop watch in class sometimes!)

I find that the best MOTG trick for me is a streamlined bottom with a looser top. I'm a rectangle that who tends to gathersome fat rolls around my waist, and having a loose top (empire, tunic, flowy banded, etc) helps me to feel relaxed and polished even when I'm sitting on the floor a lot or bending over to deal with a toddler. This sort of style is working perfectly right now to deal with the pregnant-but-just-looks-fatter stage. I try to wear a lot of outfits kind of like the one you posted, Lesley. You look fantastic!

I find the other important consideration is cleavage coverage. I've never liked to show cleavage, but I have to be more careful now that I have a toddler than I was before. Many tops that would have covered me fine before now just won't cut it because of all the bending over as well as the tugging at my shirt and neckline by my daughter.

And of course, machine washable is a non-negotiable!

As always Lesley, you look awesome. I guess I'm going to have to try clams. I'm fortunate in that my daughter is excessively neat for a toddler (hates to have ANY dirt or paint or any other substance on her hands), but a certain amount of wear and tear is inevitable on the playground and floor.

Anne - I've had good luck with play doh washing right out, but I usually make my own, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Lesley you look great.

It is nearly winter here so this outfit is not very relevant to a topic I have been watching with great interest given our climate here in Aus, but it is what I wore to playgroup today. I wore a v neck top and a purple/green necklace. not a turtleneck as in the picture which is actually from august last year.
http://s297.photobucket.com/al.....aug016.jpg

The purple skirt did end up stained with blue playdough. I hope it washes out

Ditto what April said!

I have teens and "play" is totally different than it is with toddlers. Yesterday the extent of my mothering duties was cooking dinner for family plus 3 extra teens, counseling one friend, breaking up a clandestine make-out session, and then cracking the whip to ensure homework was done (that part was done in sweats). I did dress MOTG casual because that thread was on my mind: black BR knit top, COH amber jeans, silver flats, new necklace to jazz it up.

Today consisted of picking up kids, taking them to their religious lessons (having a long walk with DH while they were getting indoctrinated), then out to dinner since the lessons ran too late to be able to accommodate home cooking, helping DD14 pick out an appropriate outfit tomorrow (going to hit 90s) and now hanging in pj's while DD16 finishes up her guitar practice. What I wore today: the brown and white dress with the jeans (skinnies) and silver flats. Pic already shared on other thread!

There is no spitting up at this age, nor are there any playgrounds. The biggest challenge is looking my age and not like another teen - a tall order when my teens are already a few inches taller than me, and their friends tower over me! I want to look stylishly casual - I often think of myself as a role model. I also am finding modesty is more and more of a requirement as well. Much of what passes as casual wear for teens is really not that modest. This was a big discussion earlier tonight as I was helping DD14 pick out an outfit for tomorrow. She is a modest kid overall, but let me just say I am soooo glad YLF taught me the cami trick. DD14 really needs camis - and she loves the look, because she is modest. So she has been borrowing my camis a lot lately. I am going to take her to the mall soon (probably F21) and buy her some of her own. She also wants a pair of me-too silver flats like mine!!!

Okay...I thought that we needed a specific thread for MOTG play wear. IMHO, seeing real outfits on real people in real life situations just can't be beat. N'est ce pas?

This idea was prompted by HannahC's frustration over what to wear when you are casually at play with your kids. I don't think it matters if you're wrangling toddlers, like I am, or doing activities with teens, or engaging in some other family activity. Play is play. And we all want to look our best, otherwise we wouldn't be here. Right? I hope that we can compile a slew of playwear looks to help us all increase our style quotient.

So...let's encourage, inspire, and help one another here with our casual play time outfits!

Who's in? I'll start:

Today, I took my DD2 and DS1 to the library for Toddler Time. Afterwards, we went to the mall, then to Whole Foods, and back home. Here is what I wore:

Anthropologie sleeveless cotton top, J Crew hipslung clams, Jack Rogers Bronze Navajo sandals, and gold hoop earrings. I added big Fendi tortoise sunglasses and a J Crew floppy straw hat as stylish protection from the AZ sun:

My sunglasses look just like these. I got mine for a song at Nordies Rack:

My hat looks like this one, but it's sold in stores for $38:

I felt comfortable in my outfit. I sat on the floor at Toddler Time with my kids while we sang songs, listened to stories, etc. I had barely plopped my butt down when DS1 spit up on my clams. Let's hear it for oatmeal and breastmilk! I pushed my kids around the mall in the double stroller. I will admit that my JR shoes aren't 8-hour ones, but they worked since I was indoors, not out for long, and was able to slip them off and on to try on a couple of things. The best part is that my clothes are machine washable.
