I've bought a few dresses from Modcloth as well. Like Lyn* said, check Ruche (shopruche.com) because they sometimes sell the same thing and it's can be much cheaper there. That being said, the fit can be off because it's all from different vendors. And in my experience, it can be harder to find a dress that comes down to at the knee because their target audience is early-mid 20s IMO. That being said, I love the couple of dresses I bought, but I also read the reviews pretty closely and figures that they would work for me.

I'll echo the advice about checking on other sites to see if the same item is available for less. I found some BB Dakota items that were marked up quite a bit.

I've bought a dress and a robe from Modcloth. I'll buy from them again and look at the new arrivals most days. Pay attention to the lengths though, many of the dresses are quite short. I like their Be the Buyer page because you can vote on what you'd like them to offer.

I haven't ordered from them but I look there a lot. One thing to check is that people supply photos of them wearing the items and sometimes you can get a better sense of how it looks in different sizes that way.

That's weird they wouldn't give you a refund. They give me a prompt refund for any hassles I have had with them!

I have gotten a few "free" items because they are returns from someone else who didn't take good care of them - missing buttons, snags, stains, makeup marks, broken zippers, etc. Just took a little TLC from me to make them work again in my closet.

Thistle -- I should have put in a disclaimer about Modcloth, when I posted my response. I had a horrible exprience with them and I agree with Lyn on the pricing structure and quality. Although I got one dress that was $75 that looked great in the pictures but when I got it, the material looked and felt like it would melt in bright sunshine!

I bought a mess of stuff from them on Dec. 31 it took until nearly February to get things cleared up. I will never buy from them again because of the sizing inconsistencies (because they are buying from different vendors) I bought a dress in a size 1X and the dress although labeled 1X the dress was really a size 8 (You know I am nowhere near a size 8) I know it was a size 8 because I measured the width on the hips. They refused to give me a refund and kept sending me the same mislabeled dress as a replacement. I will end my rant there because I think I've made my point. Like Diana mentioned, if you choose to take a chance with Modcloth READ THE REVIEWS. I cannot stress this enough read all of them if you have to because the general sizing they provide can't be depended upon like Talbot's and Lands End -- even if it's labeled plus size.

I love the looks on shopruche.com like Lyn and I think you should err on the side of shopping there rather than Modcloth as they both offer retro/romantic looks.

I bought a ton of stuff from Modcloth.

They carry many different brands, so quality and sizing will depend on what you buy.

Generally - their sizing is pretty good; you can chat with a live person 24/7 to ask about specific measurements, or within 24 hours a "ModStylist" gets back to you if you have something particular you are looking for.

Generally - any dresses under $50 I usually skip over, the quality is pretty shoddy or it's' super short or something like this. Anything over $75 is usually acceptable. Anything over $100 is usually fairly nice. Read the reviews. If you get free returns, then by all means, take advantage of it! I sure don't!

You should also check if the item is available at RUCHE before you buy - they are up to $20 cheaper.

And if you and Dies Vies are both americans, you guys should use the referral program so you guys both get some funds out of it

It varies greatly, because they're not a single brand. They carry a lot of brands of varying quality. I'd say it's commensurate with the price of the particular item. It annoys me that they don't always state the brand of the items.

I do find that most of their items run to junior sizing, so a bit small, but again it depends on the brand.

So, I followed Day Vies post to Modcloth. Wow, just wow! So many items caught my eye.

I see they have free shipping and returns, and from what I have read, they run small.

Any YLFers shop them? How is their quality? Do you find they run small?
