Ok: plaid shorts with the first embroidered top and the fringed sleeveless :)

The floral shorts... perhaps the fringed top, but those shorts are a tough one to me. That would be pretty boho lite. Any other tops with embroidery? Did you have an orange one with embroidery?

Fashintern, your commitment to your training means you look fabulous, fit, healthy and strong and your have great legs, so the shorts work beautifully for summer. However, I was WOWED by 21, gorgeous on you and sometimes not revealing can be more alluring than showing lots of skin, so to me this is not prim at all. Boho is such a great style for you, it looks authentic.

In relation to top #1, can you add a belt over the top to give waist or a dropped waist definition. I am thinking a tie belt or woven leather belt would work well with this. The top is pretty and a great colour especially with white and denim.

Ok, I'm back at my computer now.

So, I know you want outfits, and I'll get to that, but it's a little tough because I'm not sure HOW boho you want to go. From the discussion so far I suspect that you probably want just one or two boho pieces in an outfit, and then combine them with more "neutral" pieces to ground them.

So I would start with one or two boho pieces and and then try building outfits around them. The pieces that seem to have the strongest boho vibes to me are:

Bottoms: 4 (Ikat-ish shorts), 5 (black/gray shorts, also look a bit like an ikat weave on my monitor)

Tops: 1 (embroidered/sequined tunic) 16 (purple/lavender embroidered tank), 18 (coral tank), 19 (beige fringe tank)

Dresses/jumpsuits: Feather print jumpsuit in finds post 1, 21 (2-piece blue/white dress)

Toppers: 20 (purple tie-dye kimono)

Shoes: slides, white/tan sandals

Accessories: both belts in finds of post 1

Some pieces I think you'll get a lot of mileage out of as those neutral background pieces: 7 (brown shorts), 8 (tan skirt), 15 (purple tank)

Some ideas:

4 + 19
5 + 15
8 + 16, 18, or 19; try 20 on top especially with 16 and 18
7 + 18, 19
21 skirt + 18 or 19
21 top + 8
Feather-print jumpsuit + 20

For footwear, I would default to the slides with all these outfits, and use the white/tan sandals for variety or practicality (I suspect they're better for walking longer distances.

I think the tunic in 1 wants to be paired with jeans and semi-tucked. Also I am so sorry to say this because I know you really like it, but I think it's a bit big on you. The shoulder/upper chest looks droopy to me. For me the key to wearing these kinds of floaty, loose pieces without them feeling fussy and overwhelming is to make sure that there is some structure *somewhere* -- typically via a really nicely fitting shoulder seam. See photos 6 and 12 from this post for an example. (This is a strategy I had to come to through lots of trial and error.) I also like to look for a very soft, drapey weave for tops like this -- like voile or gauze -- rather than crisper poplin.

You DO have quite a strong boho integrity to your style.

I like these looks best:

#21/22 - dress - so elegant!

#7 - belted blouse with the shorts - creative!

#2 - knotted purple tee, that could look good with the shorts in #12.

Rachylou and Suntiger, do you want to play a matching game? Can you connect some of the bottoms here with tops, in either this post or in the one I linked to at the beginning, to try to make a “boho” outfit from things in my closet? I’ve pulled out the things I think of as closest to this style (with the exception of shorts, where I simply posted all of them, because there were a couple that were on the border). Buying new pieces is not in the cards for a while. And I’m not trying to do a magazine spread or stage show that calls for this style. The point is how to lean further into this style with things I already own, not how to fit a strict definition of that style. The tops in the photos here are the ones I have the hardest time wearing. I think they could work in this style, but I’ll be darned how, given the other items I have. Got any ideas?

I’m not trying to be snarky; I don’t think my intention with this post was clear, so I’m trying to restate it in a way that is. RL & ST are pretty resilient people and I think they both “get” me pretty well, which is why I address this to them, but anyone can play, please and thank you.

1, 16, 19, 20 look the most boho to me. From the second lot- 7 the belted shirt is very boho.
The Slavic Ethereal http://getthelook.pl/ethereal-.....-ethereal/ could be another boho influence that you may be able to find similar by local artisans- if you like this style. Ornamented and folky but not as "earthy."

Out of first set of pics in OP, I say 6 and 11 aren’t boho. The plaid shorts would be easier to meld into a boho outfit if you go drab colours with the rest or add something with Mexican embroidery or do woven sandals. Also: Green and purple is very boho.

Here are some photos of summer boho. Common denominators: natural wavy hair, natural materials, organic prints, openwork/lacing, soft structure (as opposed to ‘crisp’)

Star, this you can have the starting piece (like the ones I pointed out) but then the look relies on all the other pieces and accessories to pull it together to be called boho. is the point of this post—hammering out specific outfits that are BOTH me and boho.

Kkards, you just blew my mind with the idea of wearing that top with leggings but, yes, now that I think about it, I realize that’s a thing, a thing I’ve seen. I might try different leggings, because the blues might not work and those are workout gear that are now too big to jump rope in because they fall down. Fortunately, I have several other pairs of leggings to try. I very very rarely look at someone and feel a stabby “how can she do that and I can’t” feeling—about dressing or anything else, but if I still have the pic of someone I thought that about back before shutdown, I will post it. ETA found the pic I was thinking of, but you can’t tell much from it. Somehow the hat & some other layers she was wearing there just came together so perfectly, but did not look trite or overly thought-out/ too intentional. I could probably save the video at a spot that’s in better focus, but it wouldn’t be any further zoomed out, so you still couldn’t see much.

Nemo, I meant to say the opposite—besides the sunglasses, it sounded to me that everything you were describing was for winter, so I was wondering about your summer boho style.

Aw, thanks Preppy Pear! Which of those looks is your favorite? Those are 2 different tops, one of them worn 3 different ways.

I don't think boho HAS to be summer... floppy wool hats, furry layers, fringe jackets could all lean boho. Maybe try collecting a bunch of inspiration photos of what YOU think boho is, try to find their commonalities, and THEN look in your closet to see what you have.

FashIntern...this exact sentence is what i was trying to say on the other thred when i said “it is what it is” coherent outfits that have that laid back cool, natural, easy style that let me feel like myself and forget the clothes“. For me, the ragamuffins don’t forget the clothes, where as for you, its that’s the goal...
I love the dress in 21/22..wear it with the white sneakers and its going to give one vibe, wear it with metallic slides from above and it will give a different, IMO boho vibe.
I’d pair the top from #1 with the leggings from the 3rd set of photos you added, for me the longer length will work well with the leggings and allow the boho-ness of the shirt shine.

21/22 could definitely skew boho with boho accessories and shoes, not at all prim to me. Top in 16 could be boho-lite with jeans, again with not too conservative shoes and more boho-ish jewellery. # 1 is definitly boho. Cardigan in 20 could be boho-lite again with the right accessories. Why not try contrasting colours with it, a deep pinkish purple or dark green. All the other items not so much boho to me. You say some clothes are not figure flattering, but boho styles rarely are. I think after looking at these pics and giving it some thought boho is not one piece alone, you can have the starting piece (like the ones I pointed out) but then the look relies on all the other pieces and accessories to pull it together to be called boho. I only occasionally where a little boho, and I don't really do it on purpose. They usually are pieces that I like but are not my favourites, because my favourites are more edgy. So what I am trying to say in a long winded way, LOL, is if you not organically a boho dresser, you wont feel so comfortable in these types of outfits, or actually like them.

My own boho pieces include an open-weave cardigan, blanket poncho, embroidered jeans and one peasant-y top, but most of my boho comes in accessories: layered string bracelets, stone/rock and shell jewelry, woven/braided or fringe belts, floppy hat, Janice Joplin-y sunglasses, and one duster that I rarely wear. I can add those to just about anything in my closet and feel just boho enough

My summer shoes (photos) and the ones that got away (find). I wear the tennies for everything—working out & around town. That’s the same Onzie top in both pix too.

Thanks Nemosmom! The “bigger” idea is my interpretation of the comments on Angie’s post, where lots of people said they like just a smidge of boho. I think what you describe: “texture and layers that don’t inflate the outfit” is what I’m going for.

Oooh I like the belted shirt! And I agree with Vildy that 21/22 is a great dress on you.

Boho doesn't necessarily equate to 'bigger' in my mind, but I am certainly no expert. I think you can achieve boho through texture and layers that don't inflate the outfit. (I did not read the other thread...)

Getting the party started, I tried all the purple tops with the wrap skirt and the blouse with longer shorts. When I put the belt on the blouse, it cried.

What do you think? What should I adjust or try next?

Thanks April! That tank is from Soft Surroundings. I was surprised how much I liked it once I finally opened it up. It even has bra strap holders. So far I've only worn it with the shorts in 13.

Vildy, is it boho? I'm not sure. But glad you like it :)

Looking good - interested to read your text. In the meantime, the tank in #14 fits you remarkably well! It's a rare thing for neckline, armholes, and strap coverage to align so beautifully.
