I love the look of mixed metals on other women, but never do it myself, only because I avoid silver-toned metals like the plague. I could just never warm to the way they look on my skin, so (almost) everything I own is gold. I even have trouble convincing myself to buy shoes if there's a little silver buckle!

My engagement ring is gold and my watches (which I wear on the same hand) have primarily silver hardwear on them. Come to think of it I'm not entirely sure why I chose a gold engagement ring as silver coloured jewellery has always been my preference I guess when I got it when gold was the 'in' colour for engagement rings x

Edit after that ramble I forgot to say I mix metals with abandonment!

I don't mind mixing metals. I don't wear gold - I prefer silver or platinum, but I have some jewellery that is made from copper, tin or stainless steel. Like Michelle, I don't mix warm and cool, but that's a personal preference.

That's the big problem. My rings are gold and I love silver jewelry. Maybe I need a two toned watch.

I have only *just* come around to mixing metals, Debbie. I was a total metallic purist until about a year ago when the forum challenged me. Since then, I am all over wearing gold and silver together.

But I will not wear a gold watch with my platinum wedding ring. I like the metals on that hand to match. It's not essential - just a style preference.

My wedding ring is silver and gold, so it's never an issue for me. I do try to keep the metals consistent in an outfit, and so they go along with the hues I am wearing. Silver is for cooler colors -- blues, blacks, purples, etc -- and golds are for warmer ones -- yellows, browns, corals, etc. I also wear a lot of pewter (or pearls) for those colors which don't look right with either metal.

I saw someone at a party this weekend who had bright gold, silver, and matte gold all on her wrists and hands with her jewelry, and I cannot begin to tell you how badly it clashed and stuck out. Which was a shame because the rest of her outfit was very nice.

I think I need to get a few more goldtone pieces. I also need to go through my jewelry and see what I have.

I don't count my ring or watch when I accessorize. I usually don't mix metals unless it is subtle.

I'm no help here because I do like to keep my metals in the same family. My wedding ring doesn't get figured into the mix, but I wear gold toned jewelry with gold toned shoes, and silver jewelry with silver shoes. I know it has been preached that you can mix metals, but to me, when the tone of a necklace is in line with my shoe, it gives that bookend effect.

I'm ok with having two different metals on my body, but I try to keep them evenly spaced. For instance I'd keep all metals on my arms or hands the same, but if I have a gold-tone necklace and bronze sandals, I suspect I could get away with it. One rule of thumb I learned here was to keep your warm and cool metals separate, i.e you can mix copper, bronze and some golds in an outfit but keep silver and pewter out of the mix. I'm a silver girl primarily, so most of the time I keep the metallic mixes to a minimum anyway.

What are your tricks on this? I do it all the time but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm over doing it. Like today for instance I have on my gold wedding rings. Silver watch and bracelet and Clark shoe with goldtone studs. I may need to invest in some two tone jewelry. I'm on the hunt for a two tone bracelet but no luck yet.
