If I may chime in on a slightly different mirror-related issue -- always place your mirror so that the light source will be shining on the object to be reflected in the mirror (i.e., you) and not on the mirror itself.

For example, if a room has windows on only one wall and you position your mirror opposite the windows, your reflection will appear to be in silhouette and you won't be able to see details clearly when you look in the mirror. If you position your mirror so that when you look in it, the light source is behind or to the side of the mirror, instead of behind *you*, you'll be able to see your reflection much more clearly.

Does that make sense? You'll notice on the forum that photos taken with the light source coming from behind the reflected person appear dark and hard to make out. Always put your best mirror where the light can fall on you rather than on the glass.

anne, I actually have two full length mirrors and I still can't find one that shows me exactly how I am (eg the bathroom mirror). The first one I bought from Walmart makes me look much wider than I am, and the second one from Target seems to make look longer and leaner (I love this mirror, lol!) shiny is right about the tilt. Makes a lot of difference. I have found that I need to tilt the two mirrors at different angles to make me look identical in both.

If you tilt it against the wall - like you have it now - it will make you look wider. If you tilt it the other direction, it will make you look slimmer.

Anne, the tilt can definitely change your reflection- do not go judge how you look until your mirror is up on the wall. But I have to tell you- even then I've learned mirrors can either add or subtract the pounds. I have a mirror in my bedroom that is "thin"- my daughter's mirror is "thick" (I've heard her friends say "I hate this mirror!"). We'll go back and forth between the two to finally figure out how something really looks. Thankfully there is a decent, better quality mirror downstairs that will give us the truth. I'm not buying anymore cheap mirrors.

And I'm realizing as I write this I really need to replace her mirror!

So I finally bought a full length mirror, as per Angie's post some time ago. We haven't mounted it yet, and it is just tilted against a wall.

If I stand straight in front of it, I look ok. If I stand a couple of meters away I look much MUCH fatter.

Is there something wrong with the mirror, the tilt or me?

(DH says the closer to the mirror I am, the more accurate, so I am hoping that means it isn't "me")
