In the meantime, she has had an MRI, a PET scan and a PFT (pulmonary function test). This afternoon my husband and I went with her to meet with her Thoracic Surgeon and review the results.</p> <p>Unfortunately it was what we had expected. Not only does she have two significant tumours but she also has severe emphysema. She is not a candidate for surgery at all and actually not even for a biopsy as her breathing is so difficult now, and they do not like to do radiation treatment without having had a biopsy. In other words, her treatment issues are extremely limited.</p> <p>She will go for another CT scan in March to see if the tumours are growing/changing/multiplying. If they are, she will meet with a cancer care specialist to determine if there is anything they can do but it is more likely we will just be looking at comfort care.</p> <p>I don't want to get on a soapbox here and I only say this with the utmost of care for all of you: if you smoke, please PLEASE consider quitting. Nothing good can come from it. </p>
