I am all about the midis these days! Even though I'm short and several of them are ankle-grazing on me, I love them. (And take my word for it that the ones that look knee-length on the models are midi on me.) I'm wearing the Halogen navy knife-pleated one today!

Docent wear! Next time my kid tells me I’m dressed like a librarian (which is what he said as he took this pic of me in a summer midi skirt) I’m going to tell him no, it’s docent wear.

No, ankle length skirts are maxis, though I style them the same.

I have a few midis. The purple is a tube sweater skirt, that I style like any shorter pencil skirt. It's my only winter/ transitional skirt. Usually I wear it with mules or booties.

The other 3 are strictly for summer, so always sandals. Unlike pencil skirts they're passable with flat sandals. Short, fitted sleeveless tops are best. The RipSkirt is fine with my gear tanks and over swimsuits.

Carla, voluminous doesn’t have to mean volume everywhere. You might be quite comfortable in a dress with pleats like your skirt, but fitted up top. I remember a discussion with you last fall about a dress that was like that, and how it differed from the “prairie” look that hides body structure with unrestrained volume. If you wanted to, you could ride along with the prairie trend in a dress with your colors and flooff that’s balanced elsewhere.

I wear them with a fitted or semi fitted top. Or with a cropped boxy tee. Or you could try a short sleeve knit.

I’m an outlier in that my dresses are at or just below the knee, and tailored rather than swishy. I do have one skirt that is swishy (pleated and just below the knee) and I wear it year ‘round - dressed up with a lace tank top, or dressed down with a t-shirt and sneakers.

I’m hoping to add a shirt waist dress or two - possibly sleeveless, for summer. Probably not fashion forward, but the frilly and voluminous dresses don’t feel right for my tomboy self - though dresses aren’t outside my wheelhouse. Floofy is great fun, but it isn’t me.

I have 3 midi dresses and I am warming up to the idea of wearing dresses amd skirts. My legs are quite heavy, yet with a midi dress I am able to work with the proportion and rebalance my pear shape thanks to mules or peep sandals. For a midi skirt, I am planning a short cardigan to recreate a '50s shape.

I have several dresses, but my favorites are my EF dresses. One of them is linen and the others are knit of some unknown fabric. They are kind of season-less, and have odd, angled hems. Someone, probably here, described them as docent wear. Anyway, I like that vibe. I wear them to church, to dinner, to our community theater, back when we did these things. I believe we will get to do these things again, and bought a black one from the Rack. Even though black isn’t my color, it will be a nice background for my new Scottie bag.

I'm a huge fan of a matching top and full midi. I have two sets...probably both of these are out of stock, but you get the idea. I usually semi-tuck the blue brocade top to expose a bit more structure at the waist. The fabric is a little stiff so a full tuck doesn't work well.

I also have a short sleeve waist-length sweater with a welted hem that works with the pink lace midi. I have a boat-neck thin wool knit that works tucked into the blue brocade skirt.

As for leg and footwear with these: I typically wear a "bike short" style under a skirt so I don't get uncomfortable in the heat; something very thin and wicking. Then I go bare legged. I would probably wear a comfy sandal, mule/slide, structured ballet flat, or loafer with this, in a matching color or complementary shade (the black sandals I'd only wear with the navy; too heavy for the pink). I'd like wear pearls or delicate gold jewelry (chandelier earrings and dainty necklace with either (for day). If it were an evening party I'd go more blingy with statement earrings and no necklace.

I generally like to have a little structure on the top in the outfit... a more fitted top, a shorter sweater with a welted hem. I don’t necessarily like showing ankle or more of the foot to achieve that structure, but if I do it that way, I like a bit of heel on the shoe.

ETA: A little structure to balance the greater amount of material in a midi...

I am a skirt fan and have knee length, midi and maxi floaty skirts for summer. I also have a couple of very sporty midis I wear to the pool, etc. I know some folks on this blog get really stressed out about styling skirts, but I confess I don’t understand the agita. If you get stuck, post and folks can offer suggestions.

I LOVE midi length sundresses in summer. Mine are cotton and I find them quite easy to dress up or down depending on shoes/jewelry/topper. (I don't tend to have really dressy events even in normal times though.)

Most of my summer skirts are also midi length. Narrow ones (knit tube skirts, basically, but a bias-cut slip skirt would also fall in this category) are quite versatile in terms of tops in my experience. The fuller ones tend to be a bit trickier for me to style -- I think they look best with a shorter top that has a structured hem (either a welt -- can be a gentle/loose one -- or a separate band of fabric, if that makes sense).

Most of my dresses and skirts are midi length, somewhat to DH's disappointment. They suit my lifestyle and my personal aesthetic as well as being easy to dress up or down depending on the footwear.

For dress down, i wear them with sneakers or flat sandals. For dressy I’d just wear a dressier shoe.

Midis and maxis is where it's at trend wise. Personally, midis are all I wear, and they are on the longer side. LOVE THEM SO MUCH! :)

It's a maxi if it hovers just above the ankle and below. Finds #1 and #2 are maxi.

The rest are midis.

Don't buy a skirt unless you know how to style it! Or at least ask the forum for help, so that it does not become a wardrobe orphan.

I think a tea length (as we used to say) skirt in a floaty fabric can be lovely in summer. Idk if that “counts” as midi, but why does it matter? The sandal I’ve posted here is “the one that got away” from me (sold out before I could try them). I think the bracelet style adds verticality and room for glitz that you don’t get in other flat sandals and could pair well with the skirt. Maybe a floaty/boxy woven top?

I recall that you said your age comes into play in your style BVP, but declined to specify how. Am I correct in guessing that you may have “age spots” on arms or legs that you prefer to cover, or perhaps a bit of weight somewhere that you’d like to de-emphasize? I’ve preferred flat shoes at every age after high school when I had those Candy’s, but I know many people gravitate towards them with age. I’m asking only because I think it can help people make better suggestions

As there may be some social things starting in late spring, I have just taken a good look at my dressier capsules. Thoughts about adding a midi skirt or dress. Do you wear them? I have 2 midi dresses, but they are wintery. I style them with opaque tights, booties or tall boots. I do not think I can wear anything like that in more summery fabrics. No styles I can wear in dresses (too low necklines, sleveless, etc. ) however I could consider a skirt but no ideas of how to style it. It would have to be quite long, but not actually maxi. Is ankle length still considered midi?
