RE: why I can't do tights/ patent skyscrapers for the interview-- sometimes I can, but sometimes I cannot. I do HR, and am at an interesting place in my career where I am interviewing at a variety of types of firms. Some of them allow for more creativity, but you have to be well within dress codes as HR-- since you often have to enforce said dress code! I always err on the side of conservative, with plans to break out my own styles after a few weeks on the job.
