I don't see what looks wrong in the photo, actually, but if you feel "stumpy" you can try wearing jeans that are low contrast with your boots. I also do not think that what is shown here is mid-calf, but a tall ankle boot. Personally I have a pair of slouchy mid-calf boots that pair really nicely with slightly slouchy skinny jeans. I also have very slim calves and ankles, but it works for me.

What kellygirl said.
I'm by no means a boot expert, but these are lace-up "higher shaft" boots and not what I call mid-calf. The benefit of the laceup actually is that they work better under pants because they hug the ankle, or with tights or maybe leggings that are truly thin and calf-hugging.

The midcalf boots I think of with these pants are that stompier style with a wider shaft, Not a full-on Ugg look, but more ease.

I would roll or scrunch for a lace up boot. I tend to tuck in if it is a Moto boot (the shaft is then a bit wider).

I second the rolled cuff with this height boot, but these look more like high shaft ankle boots than mid calf height.

Mid calf boots are my favorite height boot but I find the ones that are looser around the top easier to style. I passed on my pair similar to these to DD1--she wears them with dresses and looks very cute. I think rolling the cuff is a good option here too. It gets tricky though because you don't want too much bulk at the cuff.

If I don't roll or cuff I sometimes scrunch up the jeans around the top of the boot. I don't like that super-tucked look with mid calf boots either.

I don't see a problem either. But if you do then you could try big socks either the same color as the boots or same color as the pants. others may not think it is a good look, but I love the idea of the leg warmers or boot tops that are not as big and thick as leg warmers, as shown in the photos. they can show a little or a lot, depending on your taste, or how you are wearing them. also a look I have done a couple of times are contrasting socks like this other photo.

A look I particularly like is about 2 inches of thick socks or boot toppers showing with lace up boots. This is a cute sporty look with skinny jeans

For some reason I can't (ever) get my skinny jeans to look good when paired with mid-calf boots. It's driving me crazy.

It always ends up looking something like this: (see photo) but even more frumpy because I can't wear skin-tight skinny jeans, so my jeans are not very tight towards the ankle. And I don't want boots that have a larger opening either, because I don't want cold air entering my boots. Not to mention my legs are so slim, I suppose it would work better if I had more curves around the calf...

How would you style your jeans to work with this kind of boots?
