One more piece of input from me: With snug fitting mid calf boots, you can wear hose/tights or go bare legged. With slouchy mid calf boots, though, I think bare legged doesn't work; you need hose/tights or long socks peeking out (which makes it even funkier and I don't know if that's what you're after.)

I have a slouchy cream pair that I wear over jeans and LOVE them. I think they look better with a heel unless you have really long legs. Mine have a one and half inch heel and I do not wear them with skirts.

To answer your question Patience, I don’t think I can generalize any more about which calf length boots are best. There are too many variables at play – boot style, heel height, body type and clothing. I’m with Antje, try them and have fun with the look!

I think ankle boots are very hard to pull off with a skirt (though not impossible I guess) but mid calf boots are very doable and very fun.

I love the mid calf height, both in the snug style and the slouchy style. I used to have snug ones and wore them with skirts all the time. Looks great if you have slender calves (which I know you do) and stick with your most flattering skirt length.
I've never had slouchy ones but once tried some on and liked them with a skirt as well. It's a funkier look than the snug ones, so it all depends on what you like and want to portray. But do try it out either way!

We've talked a lot about booties and knee high boots this season. What about everything in between? I guess I'm just curious about how to wear other styles of boots. Are there general rules? Obviously ankle boots are generally worn with pants but can they every be worn with skirts? What about mid calf boots? What are flattering heights?
