Gaping is part of the style with this kind of boot, though. It isn't meant to be fitted. If you prefer a sleeker look, I might look into a laceup combat boot style instead.</p> <p>And Dawn is right. The heels have the look and feel of flats to me. I don't know how to explain it, but they're not feminine heels. They remind me more of the kind of heels you would wear on a pair of equestrian boots to keep your feet from slipping through the stirrups...even though they are not equestrian in style. I really didn't even feel them.</p> <p>Can't say what color would be best, but I wouldn't be overly loyal to the bookending thing. I think brown would still bookend effectively. It's quite dark. But bookending is just a loose guide and not something absolute like PPL.</p> <p>One thing to note is that they do gape quite a bit around the ankles--which I don't mind at all and I think it's part of the style, but I know some people don't like the look. I'm conflicted about whether I am crazy for even considering them for 2 reasons:</p> <p>1) They are heeled. Small heels, but heels nevertheless. I'm a flats girl through &amp; through.<br /> 2) Colour. Although I know the black would be more flattering from a leg lengthening perspective, and would fit into my wardrobe colour palette, the brown and even the tan capture my eye more.
