I just scored a mirror finish pewter and black loafer from Boden's sale! My fingers are crossed they arrive with a low scuff factor & that they fit! Like Angie, I'd also love gold booties. I grabbed a rose gold pair from Anthro a few years ago but they are a touch high for frequent wear. Anyway, metallics ... Yay!

This is a bit off on a tangent, but I just received the TopShop silver strappy pumps, and they are so pretty pretty pretty! And comfortable for a pointy toe shoe. I hope they will go with a yellow dress I am having altered because I am planning my own special birthday outfit! I will try to post it if I can get a photo. I feel fully warned about the scuffing! Good to know I might try some nail polish, but anyway since I have not much chance at the moment to wear pumps, they don't have that much work to do for me, which is too bad because I would love to wear them more.

I agree that I have had pretty good luck with other metallic shoes in the past, but pointy toes can always be a bit problematic, at least the way I walk.

Have Cole Haan oxfords: one is pewter metallic with leather soles and has worn quite well. The other is a matte gold and has not worn well, rubber soles. Don't have a clue about how to predict.

Tried nail polish on the gold and found it tricky on a solid metallic. May

Nine West are good. No complaints other than the four inch heels.

On that note, all my footwear barring few, get scuffed at the heels and above heels (in case of ankle straps) while driving. Specially accelerator foot. Any ideas other than driving better?

With my grey hair, silver metallic footwear is brilliant. I think I have six pairs, including two dyed by me. I have oxfords that are pewter metallic, very very soft, that show no wear whatsoever. And my Tarrago dyed Dansk clog sandals that show scuffs that are easily covered with more of the cream dye, and some distressed metallic boots that look as good as the day I got them. I can't say I know why some scuff and others don't. It's a mystery.

Viva - this is what has happened to my Trina's. Luckily it's just at the sides where the leather joins the sole, and the tops and buckle areas are perfect, so it's not that noticeable when I wear them. But enough to make me baby them... I do like them so much.

This is good to know and I recall a few seasons ago being quite enamored with a pair of Boden silver shoes, but the sizing wasn't quite right and I ended up returning two pairs. This is becoming a HEWI for me, I do believe.

The silver pointy toe loafers I got last year could just be my most comfortable shoes after my sneaks collection, so I am glad they are holding up. They are labelled 'Italian leather' and have a slightly pebbled appearance.

I'm a little anxious about my white sandals. I'm wearing the heck out of them. Weekends I wipe them down with a baby wipe. So far so good!

I've been wearing these Ugg sandals all summer and they are very scuffed. Makes me so sad. I think less shiny metallics are more durable?

I love metallic footwear and am searching for a good flat... hoping for a metallic AGL during the NAS. Even though metallics scuffs, I won't stop wearing them. Perfect neutral for me. Love the look.

I have had good luck with metallic footwear. I have a pair of bronze sandals from Clarks that are about 8 years old that look like new. I don't wear them these days because my feet are bothering me but I did wear them a lot. I had a pair of Nine West pewter sandals that I wore a few times. I didn't have any issues with them. I sold them because they hurt my feet.
I have ordered some pewter sandals so hopefully I will have the same experience with these.

I haven't had a lot of metallic footwear , but my one venture into silver loafers (Nine West) was a bit disappointing. They didn't scuff, but they did "peel" on the piped trim on the top of the foot. One day I looked down and noticed all of these little spots that had chipped or peeled off. These were an almost-but-not-quite mirror finish shoe that I may have gotten 15- 20 wears out of - probably less. I have a pair of burnished gold brogues on my radar , and I may pick them up this week, but only because they are really inexpensive . Otherwise I'm a little gun shy...

I'm so glad you posted this, Angie. Since you first convinced me to try a pair of pewter flats (from the Rack, remember?), I've fallen in love with metallic shoes. I have a few pairs right now. They definitely have different durability levels. My bright silver pumps from JCrew are wearing like iron, as are my soft gold Donald Pliners. Both pairs of my Shoes of Prey shoes are scuffy. I've got a decent silver spray and an even better silver shoe polish, but those silver and pewter colors are hard to match. I love how the metallics pep up my wardrobe, though. I'll be happily buying more in the future.

One pair of silver metallic had a little scuff mark almost just out of the box. it was one of the pairs I had to return because of heel rubbing, but I was worried about taking them back if they noticed the little scratch. Other Dune London sandals worn only twice, but I do not think they will scratch easily.

Suz, that IS remarkable, isn't it? And you're dead right about footbeds baring the brunt of the wear on metallic sandals. I wonder if it's because of the heat and traction generated by the soles of your feet?

Isabelle, I'm impressed with how well you know my wardrobe. I gave my Boden gold boots away last year because their heels ended up being too high - giving me foot cramp. *SIGH*. The leather was SO soft through, and I wish they had lower heels. I walk really fast - as you know - and my shoes MUST keep up.

The metallic shoes that I have (Franco Sarto Holts, Sam Edelman Trina's) haven't scuffed at all. My off-white Bella Vita Wow's have scuffed quite a bit, and they're not a shoe that I wear every day. When I tried nail polish remover on them, it changed the color in that spot (fortunately it's not all that noticeable). My white Franco Sarto Holts haven't scuffed at all, and I wear them all the time.

You said on the blog you were after a pair of gold boots, didn't you have a pair of gold Boden boots ?

I want some metallics too, they look so great on ladies here, still undecided if I want gold or silver. I'll wait and see if I fall in love with a pair next season.

And it depends what you mean by "high end". In my own experience, some shoes are high end because of their design, and some shoes are high end because they're well made (all leather shoe, stitched sole). Never had comfort issues with the latter yet.

I agree that the more textured leathers seem to hold up better on the whole.

But my lightly textured pewter Sofft Bernias and Breeze sandals definitely showed their wear. Mind you, those sandals were constantly on my feet and in some pretty challenging conditions -- but the footbeds seemed to wear out extremely quickly, showing cracks and black marks. Fortunately, the tops wore much more slowly. Still, it felt a bit icky underfoot once they cracked.

So far, my Ralph Lauren gladiators are holding up very well. I have no scuff marks on my Ecco sneakers. A few on my Ecco sandals, which I wear infrequently this year, but wore in some challenging circumstances last year. And no scuff marks (yet) on my Jolenes.

I agree, Angie, that they are very versatile shoes that are easy to wear. It is funny -- our feet are differently shaped but the same shoe size and many of the ones that work for you also work for me.

Yes, and I have actually had the same experience with patent leather. There are some that are pretty much indestructible, and others that will scuff if you so much as look at them the wrong way.

Hmm, ElizabethP, my silver Trinas have held up really well to a LOT of wear ... but I wonder if maybe you are looking more closely than I am, or have higher standards than I do? My silver (mirrored) JCrew loafers are also holding up well (no scuffs), Angie, although I am making note of these tricks in case they start showing scuffs. So far, though, so good. Nice to think it's a mark of good quality.

Elizabeth, textured metallic leather is GREAT. Good point.

Joyce, JAilleen suggested Tarago shoe cream, which might work better.

It's good to know that not all metallic shoes scuff like that. At least your Topshop shoes have a low price point.
Yesterday I got a scuff on my Mephisto metallic sneakers from last year's NAS, that's a bummer. I put a little hand lotion on the scuff and it shows less but I am not happy about it.

I was almost pleased to see your post today Angie, as I was quite disappointed how quickly my Topshop shoes got a black mark. I've only worn mine twice, and am already "babying" them. Which is fine... my season for that type of shoe is actually quite short anyway, as I get my toes out as soon as I can. And I have enough pairs of shoes that I can keep them for dressy. But still disappointed.

My SE Trinas also didn't stand up as well as I'd hoped. I wore them a lot their first year, then started babying them a bit too... with them, the silver started cracking and almost peeling off in the areas where the shoe bent frequently. They are too versatile to just wear into the ground and toss... as they work with almost everything, so I want them for when other shoes don't work.

I think metallic shoes with texture, as opposed to the smooth shiny ones, hold up much better.

It's a myth that "all metallic shoes scuff easily" as that is not my own experience at all. I have several pairs of metallic shoes and none of them are extremely scuffed - accept for the Topshop Jolenes.

See my metallic shoes below:

Topshop Jolenes are a scuff-fest, hence my post today.

Cole Haan oxfords are almost 5 years old and worn very frequently. Virtually no scuff marks at all. And they are mirrored.

Stuart Weitzman loafers are workhorses, and not one scuff mark.

Ecco sneakers are used daily to walk Sam, and not one scuff mark.

Bella Vita pumps are worn infrequently, but not one scuff mark.

Born flats and Aquatalia pumps still look new. No scuffs at all.

Franco Sarto Holts have a few scuff marks, but they're barely noticeable.

It's a quality issue on the Topshop Jolenes. And you wonder why I bought another pair. Well. They are VERY comfortable for my fussy feet and I can walk at the speed of light on 8-hr shopping days with clients in them. That's rare for a dressy shoe. Unfortunately, high-end quality leather shoes do not guarantee you comfort these days.
