I like both outfits. The first doesn't seem particularly slouchy to me and you look slim enough to pull off lots of slouch. The coat looks good.

Jan; Good to see you post again.

I see trim legs that look a mile long! I also see an on-trend chunky knit in a drop-dead color expertly layered over a button down! You really have been studying Angie's posts!

I think you're right to celebrate the menswear vibe of this coat. As for the slouchy look and your middle --- I suspect that others aren't seeing things the same way even in the 360 degree view of real life (as opposed to photos). I think we're often aware that we're a little wider or softer than we once were, but I seldom notice slight changes in others like I do in myself! I see the volume in the clothes, not in you!

Well, possibly I was being a bit sensational in my title! My sweater doesn't feel like maternity wear....just the coat. When I was wearing it today I realized it's because it just has three buttons which end just under the bust. The bottom of the coat kind of splays open at times making it look baby bumpish....anyway, I've decided I can put up with this because I do like the coat for some undefinable reason (the tweed? the menswear influence?). Also I can wear jackets and heavy sweaters under it (which adds to the bumpishness, of course) Just wanted to know if I was deluding myself thinking it was the least bit current.
Thanks everyone, and Dianthus, I live outside of Toronto.

I am not getting a maternity vibe off any of this, nor am I really getting slouchy, TBH. While the sweater may have a little extra room, that's the way sweaters of that style are supposed to fit to my eye, and the pants are not slouchy at all. I think it is a great outfit, and I love the coat as well, but neither "maternity" nor "slouchy" come to mind for me at all.

After being in maternity clothes a year ago, I get no maternity feel at all. The sweater is gorgeous and I would totally keep!

Maybe it's just my point of reference, but I'm not getting the maternity vibe at all from this! You look great, love the color of the sweater on you. I think the whole outfit looks great!

Well, I think both of these items look great, particularly for this weather! The sweater is a lovely colour and the coat works with the slim trousers tucked into boots and your long legs! Fun bag, too.

The sweater looks great on you and I don't think it adds too much bulk but I hear you on the slouchy look. I have ranged from 112 to 150 pounds in the last two decades and feel that the looser fit worked better for me when I was under 130. Somehow when I was slim, he looser fit made me appear thinner but a looser fit when I am carrying weight makes me feel bigger. This may be my own internal eye at work though and not the general perception.

You have great long slim legs and that also helps to give a slimmer appearance because it is the part of you that is more visible in the looks posted.

There are quite a few of us Canadians here. Where in Canada are you?

After my warm welcome yesterday I'm ready to put myself out there with some questions!
Picture 1: BR shirt and slouchy sweater, gap cord skinnies, Anne
Klein boots
Love the colour of the sweater and the coziness. Here's why I'm unsure about joining team slouchy....too much material in the tummy area! I'm feeling that the slouchy look is only for the slimmest of slim. I feel like I'm constantly rearranging the bottom of this sweater! What does team slouchy think about this comment?
Picures 2 and 3: I bought this Calvin Klein coat two winters ago. It spoke to me! But as time went on I found the volume too much. Although at my age, people wouldn't think I was pregnant (!) last year I put it to the back of my closet. This year with menswear inspired loose fitting coats returning, I pulled it out again. I always wear it with skinnies to try to balance the shape. I can fit a jacket underneath or this big slouchy sweater. I think the photos make it look a little better than it is...in real life it's a bit looser...
Thanks for all your honest opinions. Even got DH involved but tried to add a sideview as well.
