Sounds great! i know the best-fitting button-front shirts I've found yet have been from the boys' department at Target!

I haven't tried kids' clothes yet, but I do find girls' shoes to be a nice alternative to women's. The quality is actually pretty good, in some cases better, on the girls' stuff than the women's. I guess because kids run more and are harder on their shoes, the dressy or sandals type shoes are more padded and rugged, which equals more comfort.

Good luck, Elisabeth, on your vest, it sounds wonderful. I would love one too, saw Rae wear one with a long-sleeved blouse awhile back and it looked really cute! Show us some photos when it arrives, please!!!

I have been known to shop in the children's section. I fit in a girls' size 12 at Old Navy, and the Gap. For the longest time, my denim jacket was a children's size -- perfect cheeky length!

My experience: the quality is never as good. Because kids grow fast, it needn't be that great, just good enough to last a few months until the next growth spurt. And you have to be really discerning as a lot of kids' stuff has sparkles and other childish details.

Another place I shop children's section is Land's End. Quality is a bit better there. Good for gear.

I have been debating about going to the boys' section to find some basic white cotton tee shirts. I don't like anything I'm finding elsewhere, and price is much better.

I think you're right, Jules. You do need feminine details. I tend to wear bright red lipstick and lots of mascara if I'm doing a menswear look! And overall I'm quite feminine looking, being so short and all, so it's hard for me to feel "too masculine" no matter what I'm wearing.

Here in Canada kids' clothes also have less sales tax. I had a very petite friend who could wear basics from GAP kids. I would totally do it if I were the right size... but I grew out of kids' sizes at age 10 or so, lol.
Good luck with the vest. I also love the menswear look but can't quite pull it off. I think it needs feminine style details and I'm not great with jewellry, makeup etc.

I love the menswear look. However, I have trouble implementing it sometimes, because actual menswear is always miles too big for me, and often the feminized versions are not quite right.

Specifically, I'd been looking for a vee-neck sweater vest with an argyle pattern for ages. Couldn't find one anywhere. Then yesterday, when ordering Christmas pajamas from Hanna Andersson for my kids, I noticed that they had the EXACT vest I'm looking for -- but in the boys' section! And it was on promotion sale. So I took a chance and ordered it. They have a table that shows the actual garment measurements, and ordered the one that's 34" across the chest and 31" at the waist. I want it to look kind of shrunken, so that sounds like it might fit. We'll see. I might be delusional. But if it does, I'll post about it, because this could be an option for all you other petite ladies. Kids' clothing tends to be a lot less expensive than women's clothing, even if it's high quality.
