I agree with others that lower contrast subdued etc are the way to go for you in this particular situation (not knowing the deceased and what she may have preferred - she could have friends who make other choices that work for their feelings or the relationship they had). In the first outfit I read the belt as gold at a glance and that’s something that could appear ‘festive’ or less appropriate. The other thing about it that I like better is that you've toned down the accessories. The main thing I think about with these events is to not stand out or draw any attention. I don't want people to notice or remember what I wear at all because the event is so not about me. So just going kind of muted is respectful to the people you are going to support.&nbsp;</p> <p>Years ago someone on the board posted something like this and mentioned not wanting to claim a level of grieving that didn't belong to her. I thought that was a lovely way to say it. So I don't aim for all black and super somber, but I also don't aim for anything that will be memorable. And of course, what you think feels right.</p> <p>22 years ago I wore red shoes and bag with a black pinstripe pants suit to my Mum's funeral in Cape Town, SA. She loved red shoes and bags, so that's why. Apart from our family who was dressed formally - but not black necessarily - people at the funeral were dressed in regular clothes. My Mum LOVED flowers, so many wore floral dresses and tops, across all colours.&nbsp;</p> <p>In 2019, I wore a dressy navy shirt dress and red shoes to my Mum in Law's funeral in Durban, SA. My MIL loved red, although yellow was her favourite colour. Some people wore yellow to the funeral because of that. If I had yellow shoes, I'd have worn them. Apart from a few dressy people across all palettes - everyone was extremely casual. All colours of the rainbow.&nbsp;</p> <p>To my Dad's funeral last year in the Netherlands, I wore the same navy shirt dress, with light blue shoes and bag. Only 15 people at the funeral - COVID - and all dressed up. But not necessarily dark. My one aunt wore florals. My other black and white. Hubs Greg and I were in navy. Cousins and friends in shades of blue. My brother in grey and black.</p> <p>Here is the dress, the bag and shoes. For my Father in Law's funeral in a few weeks in South Africa too, I will wear the same. It’s also not a wedding where yes people may be checking out your outfit head to toe, because it’s part of the fun of a wedding, they are more focused on face level connecting/talking with people. All this to say I think I don’t think you need to go shopping for footwear. I think dark footwear is always going to appropriate for such a situation so I’d probably choose the Mary Janes. </p>
