JulieJohn, your post was lovely too, just as always, you have such a gift to lift the sprits. Yes, a healthy dose of lipgloss and (perhaps sometimes unhealthy) of Miss' Elliotts, Dashwoods and Bennetts have indeed helped me through these times.

I'm happy to say, that we now have purchase contract in our hands. The wait for the building works is starting, as the house is yet to be built, but we're one step closer to our permanent home.

More on that soon.

I have barely gotten to know you yet, but look forward to it when you get all sorted out in your new life. It sounds like a lot of stuff has happened quickly, and I hope a window of blue skies and ease is on its way now.

"My last line of defense is lipgloss." This really cracked me up, it is profound yet sounds so funny out of context. It reminds us all never to forget the power of a pick-me-up, no matter how tough and self-sufficient we tell ourselves we are.

And I am another to second the power of Jane Austen. She knows me so well, and I love to meet all my selves again and again in her stories. "Pride and Prejudice" or "Persuasion" can soothe me when nothing else can. Except maybe "Little Women", another savior.

Your post was lovely, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your kind words and keeping my spirits high. Things are slowing down... and coming up to a big finale this week hopefully. We have all necessary appointments lined up. Right now we are literally down to clearing a few issues about the mortgage AND, believe it or not, weather, which determines whether my cousin, who is traveling to accompany us at the signing as the interpreter, will be able to travel as it snows like mad in her part of the country.

Katiepea, I have reread your post several times and can relate to so many aspects of it... I so know what you mean! We simply need to go through certain situations ourselves, life's rites of passages I suppose, and there's no other way about it. I always only hope this experience will be f some use in the future.
I have a mug a friend gave me ages ago which says "Some day we'll look on this and it will all be funny". Over the years it became sort of my philosophy too, that's the power of subconsciousness for you. I really find comfort in it and it helps me laugh when it all seems too much.

I can only imagine how hard it has been for you. I struggled moving away from my family and friends to the other side of my country - I can only *imagine* what it must be like to move to another country!

For what it's worth, I think from all you've described that you are handling things really well. All those things you've described are the types of events that I class as "I'll laugh about this - One day." How much time needs to transpire before this happens depends on the intensity of the event and my reaction.

I can remember when I first moved to Brisbane, I felt initially very much like an outsider and that life was really hard. I worried I'd never feel like it was going to get easier. One of my most vivid early memories of moving here five years ago was when I dropped my eldest child off for his first day at school (I'd only lived in Brisbane for three days) and promptly got lost on the drive home. It was barely a kilometre from the school to my house, but I took a left turn, instead of a right. I pulled over the car feeling absolutely helpless and pathetic and cried and cried and cried (and some more after that).

If I'm being truthful with you, I'd say it took me a good eighteen months to start to really feel like I was making true friends and know my way around the place. I'm glad that I persisted though, because I now love where I live and my life.

I truly hope that this will be your experience too.

Take care and hang in there xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Rooting for your house acquisition to go through quickly and smoothly, Ornella! And wishing you many peaceful moments in your new home, your new neighbourhood --- and excitement (within parent-approved limits!) for your son at his new school.

Yes, I've missed you too, and it will be so good to 'see' you again, with the new camera and new buys; but first, you must get the necessary R&R and your routine back in order.

Will be thinking of you, until then.

And seconding Inge on the ear muffs --- I've found them far more useful than hats when I travel, if I have to choose, that is!

I'm studying the contracts today and keep peeking at the forum. I need pleasant distractions ;-)

Scarlett, if you decide to got for a property here, let me know, we've been through a lot We initially didn't think it would happen so fast, but when we saw the plans for the development at a fantastic location that suits all our needs, we dived into it. And we want to sort it all before school admission date, so our son can qualify for the one in the area.
I hear you about feeling how easy it was at the consulate - for me too the familiarity of something that constitutes everyday life is what I need the most to anchor me. But, hopefully the end is in sight.
Btw, Berlin is on our wish list to visit it (I'm glad to say - again) sooner rather than later, but I'll know more once everything is over. One thing at a time, one day at a time.

Shannon, I've seen some of your recent threads... you too have a lot going on, and yet manage to be so upbeat. Your "half full glass" attitude is very inspiring.

No joke, Ornella, moving country/house/life to another country without the language for the good of the family unit is not easy, I know! We are not at the phase yet of buying a property because we don't know how long we will stay, but the very thought gives me a headache for all the organization involved, and even more so without the language and culture! It was actually a joy for me just to go to the consulate the other day where I could interact with people from my own culture. I forget sometimes how different things are, but then it was so easy there in comparison to my day to day life here that it really stops me in my tracks. You could always consider popping up to Berlin for a breather. I think the high speed trains make a short trip possible. In any case just give yourself time. You will find your place. It's normal to get frustrated and tired sometimes. Besides that I have always found the winters here extremely hard. There is just too little sun. A blue light and vitamin D can help a lot.

Ornella, you are such a generous spirit, having freely shared your time and creativity with all of us YLF sisters. Please take all the time you need to recharge yourself and yes, thanks God for Jane Austen! A different time, pace and manner are always a breath of fresh air. So wonderful to hear from you...now be generous to yourself.

Big hugs! It's hard to be motivated in all areas of life when things are stressful. Especially for such a long ongoing period. I hope your move and life shift go smoothly and you can get back to feeling normal and less stressed. I'm excited to see your new purchases and "style shift", hopefully you will get to take some photos soon, with your new camera!

Sending a great big HUG your way and keeping my fingers crossed that things will be settled soon so your sense of normalcy can return. And I agree 100% with your comment about hair and style. I'm experiencing a little bit of that myself.

Oh Ornella, we miss you tremendously, but please don't worry about not having the time or energy to check in regularly. A day goes by so quickly and you have (and have had) so much to deal with during the past year. Truly, my hat is off to you. Starting over again in a new country is a big thing and you are handling it with grace and pizzazz (even though it sometimes doesn't feel like that:-)

I am holding thumbs that everything will continue to go well with the purchase of your new home. Hang in there beautiful lady!

P.S. They might not be warm enough on your bike, but I always find that earwarmers are kinder to our hair than actual hats...
