I think one of the hard things about adopting a new furry friend is finally accepting that the other friend is gone. I cried the first night we got Siena home. </p> <p>PatP, that’s a great sentiment. I did consult Brooklyn. I talk to her picture all the time. And I like to think she is counselling Siena. </p> <p>Minaminu, I have seen that show! The dog in question was located on the north coast. I’m a little bit surprised at how intrusive some of the questions are when you apply for adoption from some rescue organisations. This one asked our ages and what we planned to do if we needed to go to a nursing home. Really? Anyway, we think it was meant to be. Last time around some 10+ years ago our first application to adopt a dog was turned down by a rescue organisation because at that stage we both worked full time in an office. On our second try we got Brooklyn, so it was clearly meant to be.</p> <p>I went out today to get my hair cut and when I came home there was Siena, lying on her bed on her back with her feet in the air, sunning herself. Without a care in the world. We have a rescue dog called Bruno he’s 16 now and we love him so much. My husband says it is better to try again (with another dog) than withdraw from life and all the joys it has to offer for fear of getting hurt.</p> <p>She is a little sweetie. But she had not planned on getting one for half a year or so. However, one of her adult child's friends happened upon a puppy in need of a home and he could not provide the home. To make a long story short, Danielle adopted him. And by and large, she is delighted. Remi is a lovely pup, who misbehaves or gets into puppy mischief but is also surprisingly calm and even-natured and promises to become a wonderful companion.&nbsp;</p> <p>Still, she can't help but remember Mika fondly not only for herself but also for her associations with her husband, who helped to raise her and loved her also. Our Bodie used to have a zillion chew toys, including a number of black Kongs and he still chewed unauthorized items in our house (furniture, blankets, pillows, even the flooring). It only stopped when our yard got fully fenced so he could race like the wind.
