Is aloof and is not interested in pleasing you. &nbsp;Our SIL had a cat we never saw. &nbsp;It ran and hid under something. I don't think they can be deprogrammed! That said, they eventually settle into the rhythms of a household. Our cats jump up into their bed at the end of our bed the minute my husband gets in, and they pass out. The 2 yr old is up and down many times through night, and wakes us if we're not up by 6:30, but then settles in for a long morning nap after he eats and plays a little more. My husband is a cat-things replicator. So we have half a dozen plush cat beds around the house, 2 scratching posts, and other scratch pads, toys <i>everywhere</i>. Our cats most prefer sleeping in boxes from Sam's or Costco - the low sided ones that fruit is packed in. We put a plush bed inside of one of those boxes on our screened porch.<br />Laser pointers are a lot of fun with cats. Great way to burn off kitten energy, too - they'll run and run. Anything that dangles is a toy.</p> <p>I groom our cats every 2 weeks. A big, big second on the Furminator! One of our cats won't let me brush him with a traditional brush due to sensitive skin, but he tolerates the Furminator because you draw it with, not against, the fur. It's a life-changer! Also, I Dremel-drill their claws. I put the drill on the 2nd to lowest setting. Get one with a light at the tip. It might require to have play time planned a few times a day.&nbsp;<br />Some other forum members will have more advise and experience since my kitty was an adult when we adopted her ( about 6 years old ). Some of my cats like drinking out of the sink. We had one of those pet water fountains, but it got really grotty quickly. Now we just change the water bowls twice a day. We had one cat who would wait for me to clean it before he would get in at bedtime.&nbsp;</p> <p>We also have cat towers, short and tall. Nice next to a window so they can look out. This is if you have room. A cat is probably a good choice for an apartment since they do not require outside time.<br /> Each cat has such a unique personality.<br /> One thing I wish we had done was to get our pets used to traveling in a carrier to the vet.<br /> I was spoiled as my brothers and Dad were all vet's so we always had home Dr. visits by a familiar person.
