I couldn't let the jeans binge of 2015 end without a further update. I was concerned about the fit of the jeans, and that perhaps I'd let the excitement of actually having a budget overcome pragmatic good sense. So this morning, I tried on every single pair of trousers and jeans that I own, and came to the same conclusion as Sveta, that the legs on the slimmer pairs were just too tight for me. So off I trundled (1.5 hours round trip into town) to return four pairs, keeping the boyfriends and a white straight leg that is really nice. I wish I'd seen all these comments before I left because I definitely would have tried a slimmer pair of the blue wash BFs for comparison. I had wondered that about the legs but had in mind this look:
http://europe.agnesb.com/en/fa.....h14/look/2, with obvious compromises given that mine were $15 and here in my hand and those are who knows how much and ship from Europe.

And why on earth didn't I think of getting duplicates of the white ones? That is such a smart thing to do. I'm going to have to figure out how I can justify another trip to town very soon...

Sorry, Deborah, the slim legs are gone. I couldn't feel comfortable thinking "ice cream cone legs".
KM, I loved that rich medium blue too. I was really sad to let them go but, well, ice cream cone just stuck in my head.
TraceyLiz, I think my husband is very grateful for this website! It's much better to talk to people who really get it.
And so there you are. Angie was right about the white ones, they're keepers.

Great white BF jeans - I bet you would get a lot of wear out of those. It makes sense to buy cheaper white jeans (if the fit is right and the quality is passable) because they will not last as long as blue jeans due to very frequent washes. I also bought cheap Gap white BF jeans (around $20) to replace my Kuts which became too big. If they are so cheap you may consider to duplicate them to avoid bottlenecks with the laundry!
OK, I will be brutally honest about other jeans:
- faded BF jeans. Like the wash but they feel a bit too big in the legs - unless you are into very oversized. Have you tried a size down at least to compare? Also the rolls seem too bulky and not tapered enough - again maybe because they are too big? I would definitely try a size down.
- I maybe too much into less tight fit now but jeans in #1 seem a bit too tight. Again it may be just me and my adverse reaction to "sausage tight" skinnies. The leg openings fit nicely though.
On the other hand you can ignore all this: those who shopped with me know how picky I am :-)

My husband's eyes would have glazed over at the second pair lol

Dimity they all look good. I am a little partial to the two pairs with the slimmer legs but I think that is more about my personal preference. I just haven't been able to get with the program when it comes to boyfriend jeans, tho the white ones look very good on you.

Thanks for the heads up. Might go check out my Target after work :)

kkards, yeah, it is really complicated and I don't think there are any simple answers. The BFs are my faves too. I love the looser leg, it reminds me of Agnes b.'s fall collection this year.

Thistle, you know, you're right, I should just enjoy the fact that I now have some nicely fitting jeans. Reality check!

oh i love target! and yes, i hear you about trying to buy more ethically produced clothing, but here's some additional food for thought ---much of clothing produced in the US (and I'm assuming other 1st world countries) is made from fabrics made somewhere else. also, for many of the garment workers in the developing world, those jobs are the 1st step up out of poverty. not suggesting that fast fashion is good for the world, just saying i find it very complicated when i really think about it.

anyway, back to the jeans…..love the BF's! they look great. i like the others as well, but the BF's are my favs.

Dimity: Sometimes the best fashion is the fashion that we can afford and purchase while we're shopping for light bulbs and toilet paper. And I agree with the others that the biggest enemy to responsible consumption is the throw away culture. Use and enjoy what you have and buy responsibly when you can! I like to have variety in my closet and, even with a moderate sized wardrobe, I can wear out my jeans in 2-3 years. By that time, I'm ready for something updated.

I think it's the camera angle making your calves look small and your hips look curvier -- the cutaway in the top accentuates this. I love the black ones!

I agree, KL. And I do plan to keep them a long time. They are good fabrics and seem to be sturdily made so they should last a long time. I have several pairs of pants in my cupboard that are nearing a decade, so maybe...

You'll have to post pics so we can see your new jeans. And I hear you on your concerns. Are you planning on keeping the jeans for a while? I think one of the big problems people have with fast fashion is when someone buys something, wears it a few times, and then throws it away. I don't think it's quite as bad with your jeans as long as you plan on wearing the more than a few times.

They were on the clearance racks, dozens of them. The most expensive pair was $15 and the cheapest was $5, so I didn't blow the budget. Target here has had signs up saying that they have changed their fits based on a survey of women and I think it must be working because they fit me nicely.

Anne, shopping with children is no joy. Bored husbands aren't much better, but at least they don't throw tantrums and you can put them in a corner with free wifi. But yesterday, the day was all mine. Bliss.

You know all that talk about buying less, but better? Avoiding fast fashion. The factory conditions for workers in developing countries. The impact of pesticides sprayed on cotton fields. The impact of denim distressing techniques on clothing worker health. The minimal wardrobe and how you really only need a few wardrobe pieces to get dressed.

Yeah, well, then there was me yesterday.

At Target. With a shiny new clothing budget. And a list, and wardrobe gaps to fill.

I came home with eight pairs of jeans. All different, none skinny, three boyfriend. And they all fit really nicely. I especially like the white boyfriends. I tried them all on for my husband, telling him, this is different because... and his eyes glazed over at pair number three, unable to see much difference between the pale wash boyfriends with the roomy leg and the medium wash straight legs.

So I brought my guilt here because you'll understand why they're different, and necessary, and why I'm infatuated with having a neat little pile of glorious jeans sitting happily on the shelf in my wardrobe.

ETA photos. I hate photos of myself and I admire those who put them up here all the time. Now that I'm seeing myself in these photos, I'm thinking that the blue straight and black pair are a bit unflattering and 'ice cream cone' like. What do you think?
