I guess it depends what the origin of the name is. Maya seems to be a pretty common name across cultures, but with different meanings and pronounciations. My version of Maya is Indian and means illusion.

And of course we will meet Nicole! As if there was ever any doubt.

It turns out that I have pronounced it right, but nor because I actually knew it was right - simply because that's the way the name is pronounced in my country too.

So everyone else was correct in their pronounciation. I was wrong. (certainly not a first!)

My daughter Mia is often called My-ya (long I) but its really Me-ah (long E). And my hairdresser's daughter is Maia (long A)--so I see there are many variations of this similar name.

Either way it's a beautiful name, but if and when I meet you, I'll now know how to pronounce it. (I prefer to think "when" I meet you, because that makes it more likely to happen.)

Oooh, I was talked about by people I have never met! How surreal. Anyway, Angie and Ana have it right. My-ya. I have 2 other names if you would prefer to use one of them

Maya, I don't remember if this was every discussed before, but I'd like to know how you pronouce your name.

In my mind I say May-a (M long A, short a) But at the BTP, your name came up a few times and everyone else seemed to say Mi-a (M, long I, short a)

So..which is it?
