This is a great thread Laura.

I've not changed up my skincare products this month.

I currently wash with water then apply The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin for brightness and a couple of sun spots I've developed. I then use the Ilia serum foundation SPF mentioned up-thread and Lanolips in rose gold on my cheeks and lips.

In the evening I'm layering the Alpha Arbutin under The Ordinary's Grenactive Retinoid and after about 20 mins applying Weleda Skin Food Light as my night cream.

The Alpha Arbutin is water based and feels absolutely lovely on the skin.

The Lanolips is okay in terms of colour and texture but a little too drying IMO.

In terms of haircare I co-wash using Ziaja Goat Milk Conditioner, then emulsify Creme of Nature Argon Oil Hair Snot before roping and praying handing the product through my hair. I plop with a microfibre hair turban to remove excess water then air-dry.

I have been using the Hero. Lightening Wand on some dark spots. I've only been using it about a week, and I am already seeing a difference. It's even made a keyloid scar less prominent! I also found a new peel off face mask that I love: Cremo Detoxifying Peel-Off Mask with Charcoal. It dries completely, works well, and peels off in a single piece- so satisfying!

Peri, I have been using Cetaphil for sensitive skin for years. I make sure it is the sensitive skin one and not the regular. LaRoche Posay Tolerane is supposed to be good. I have not used it but have heard great reviews about it. Avene has a good cleanser. Dr. Dray reviewed it on her YouTube channel. I can't remember the name of it.

Joy, the cowash doesn't really foam, it just lightens a bit when water is added so you can rub it through. It might work ok as a cream rinse, I'm not sure...

Deb, the Missha sunscreen is the All Around Safe Block Essence Sun. They've changed the packaging up so I'm hoping the product hasn't been reformulated. So far so good the first few days.

nemosmom, I'm the same about blush; if I wear foundation I have to wear some color otherwise I look cadaverish. I want to try the Glossier cloud paints. My cream blushes right now are from Flower Beauty (peachy) and an Ulta store brand (more rose).

Lisa P, I was also underwhelmed by the Olay Retinol 24 cream. I'm still using it up because it's not horrible but I haven't noticed any positive results. The coordinating Regenerist cream I really like, though, which is why I'd tried the new one. I think I'm going to try the Neutrogena retinol cream next.

Peri, I read the same about the CeraVe reformulation. I've bought a bottle of the Vanicream cleanser but haven't tried it yet since I'm still using up my old CeraVe container.

The CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser that I've used and like for years has now been reformulated and renamed to CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. The bottles look the same with the exception of that one word so they tried to slip the change in under the radar, but the new formula smells really bad and there are many ingredient changes. I can't say whether it works as well for me because I haven't been able to tolerate the smell to use it long enough.

With allergic contact dermatitis I'll have to check exact ingredients for myself, but can anyone recommend a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin?

Some new skin care purchased in May that doesn't work for me - or meet my standards and requirements:

1. the Cerave serum pills under everything (moisturizer, foundation ) no matter how little or more I use of it. Also no apparent benefit to the skin - all round fail. I may try to return this one - but the effort might be not worth the original cost.

2. I purchased this Olay night cream (I'm trying to cut all expenses and trying less $$ skin care) and "matching " serum and have 2 issues with it: the serum is in an opaque bottle and you can't see what's actually in there , and , the moisturizer is not thick nor luxurious enough for a night cream. Neither product had any visible impact on my skin , and didn't feel substantial enough to do anything . Fail.

I like the idea of tinted sunscreen. Maybe I should put a little of my foundation in my sunscreen for now!

I have been using TIZO2 Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40 and TIZO3 Primer/Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40 on the recommendation of my skin doctor. So far so good. The untinted version, TIZO2, leaves a very faint white cast that doesn't bother me and the tinted version, TIZO3, is perfect for my skin tone. It is on the warm side so it would not suit cooler skin tones.
I also started using Clinique's Take The Day Off to remove the sunscreen. That stuff is stubborn! I had wanted to try the Clinique product for a while because I had heard so many great things about it. I love it. 5 stars from me.
I had tried a number of mascaras from the drug store hoping to find one that I liked. I finally gave up and went back to my old faithful Lancome Monsieur Big. He is the best for my eyes. :) He was irritating my lashes but not anymore. Not sure why.

I have discovered a curl creme for my frizz-prone curls that I really like. Does not make them crunchy, even when air dried.

About a month ago I had to switch from powder blush to a creme one and I am liking Glossier cloud paint in Beam and Dusk. Dusk will be just enough 'flush' in the winter and Beam feels lighter and more colorful for the brighter summer light. All of the redness of my face is concentrated around my nose and under my eye, so once I conceal that, I need blush or I look dead...

I don't wear foundation often, but find it helpful on days when I have back-to-back video calls. I have long been a devotee to Mac face and body, but recently got Ilia serum foundation with spf -- I love the texture and how natural it looks in-person. It took a bit of playing with it to get the application just right, but I like it.

The Ilia foundation plays fairly well with my 'outside' sunscreen, but I tend to wear one or the other. I started using this baby sunscreen in February and will definitely buy it again. I don't get any color through it at all and it does not break me out.

True by Made Beautiful co-wash cleansing conditioner: Laura, does it foam up at any time while on your hair, like when you add water? I am wondering if it would work for me instead of the algae cream rinse I have been using.
My hands feel like a grater after all the washing. I learned the hard way that many moisturizing creams have alcohol as an ingredient. It burns.

Oh thanks so much for bringing the mask-ne up! I've had (lone, thank god) whiteheads pop up recently, which I think result from the combination of sunscreen (supposedly non- comodogenic, ha!) and excess sweat underneath the mask... sorry if this is tmi. Thankfully my usual (paula's choice) bha product keeps everything more or less in check, though I've had to increase use from every other night to every night.
Then again, this may also have to do with my 'winter skin' being way drier than my skin in summer.

I was breaking out around my nose and mouth, but I attributed it to the fact that I had become lazy about applying the prescription Rosecea cream I’m supposed to be using (Rosiver). It cleared up, but took 2-3 weeks. Lesson learned.

Not new, but I continue to be a big fan of the Aveeno Baby sunscreen SPF 50 for sensitive skin. A 100% zinc oxide mineral sunscreen, it leaves a light white layer with a bit of a sheen that doubles as a ‘foundation’ for my pale skin. I’ve spent 6 hrs out of doors on high UV days and got no colour!

The Marc Anthony curl products are my new fave hair styling tools. After a decade or more of using Sebastian Potion #9, I tried the curl cream last year, and now I’m on my second tube. I found the dry styling oil quite by accident, and using it as a second or third day refresher on dry hair. The Marc Anthony and Sebastian products do have glycerine listed as an ingredient - so might not be a good for folks who are trying to avoid it in their hair care products.

Gardening is doing a number on my hands, and I’m looking for a good cuticle rehab item. Just using a dab of regular olive oil layered under a heavy Aveeno cream before bed.

Is anyone else getting mask-acne (maskne?)? I sure am. Sigh.

During stay-at-home I went through my beauty products stash to see what I could revisit or use up – there wasn’t a lot of excess since I got rid of most of my extras when I moved last year. I did restart using the EcoStyler crystal clear hair gel; before it would get too crunchy but if I layer a bit of it over the Palmer’s Flax Seed gel that’s my go to*, it does improve curl longevity without looking too 80s. The other item I started using was the first in a trio of impulse buys from Sally’s last year – True by Made Beautiful co-wash cleansing conditioner. It is the consistency of a regular conditioner and is a one-step item. You have to let it sit for a bit, and add some water, to get the cleansing to happen, but it doesn’t strip and it smells good. I’ve been alternating it and my usual gentle shampoo when I wash my hair and it’s working well, unless I go several days without washing. I’ve also repurposed the facial oil from Good Molecules, which I didn’t love, as a cuticle oil before bed, layered under some hand cream.

[*currently out of stock everywhere I’ve looked IRL and online – man I hope this hasn’t been discontinued, aaaaaaah]

Shiseido Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Mild Milk (YesStyle): My favorite Missha sunscreen was out of stock on their website so I ended up buying it from YesStyle, and adding a few other things to get free shipping. This is a 20 mL Japanese sunscreen, intended for sensitive skin. You shake it up before applying and then it goes on very liquid and silicone-y. Once it dries down it’s got a bit of a powdery texture. I like how it looks worn alone. Under other stuff, however, it’s less consistent: it makes some of my foundations pill up or flake off and I still haven’t found a combo that I love for day-long wear. Unless I find one, I’m unlikely to repurchase this and will just use it up on days where I’m not wearing makeup.

Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream (YesStyle): Back when the snail filtrate trend was new, I had some good luck with sheet masks featuring it as an ingredient. I hadn’t had any snail products for a while, so I thought I’d give this a go. It. Is. Fabulous. It’s a slightly powdery gel and goes on quickly. On me it absorbs well and gives me a moisturized but not shiny result. It’s what I always wished for with all those hydrating serums but rarely got. I love it; I can wear it in the morning under my sunscreen or at night under my heavier creams and it makes my skin smooth-feeling and calm. Only downside, if you can call it that, is that the tube isn’t huge so I will go through it quickly. But it’s not that expensive.

CosRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner (YesStyle): It’s still early days with this one, which I bought as a gentler option to the 2% BHA and ~10% AHA toners I’d been using after my evening cleanse. It’s nice enough but I’m not sure if it’s really doing anything much. I feel like CosRX used to be reasonably priced, but now it’s really not – I don’t know if it’s an exchange rate thing (they’re Korean) or what. If I’m going to spend $20+ on an acid toner, plus possible int’l shipping, I can just get one at Paula’s Choice instead.

What have you tried recently that you like, or would like to warn others against? Any maskne tips?
