I have several jersey maxi skirts and a dress that looks really cute on its own or with a denim jacket.</p> <p>It's hard to find maxi dresses that can be worn with a regular bra and without a cami underneath. It seems popular to balance out the length by showing skin up top. Looks cute on young, less well-endowed ladies, but I don't love the look on me. So I only have found one dress that works so far. I wear my maxi skirts with tees or button-down shirts. (I just bought a chambray shirt that I think will look cute.) Could you take that budgeted amount and apply it towards your maxi dress? I too have a hard time upping the budget for certain items, but it is a mental thing I am working on.</p> <p>Another way I can justify buying a more expensive item is to figure out how many hours I have to work in order to pay for the item. Am I happy working 5 hours in order to pay for X? High-lows, full maxis...I'm seeing tons of them on ladies walking around this area, and in the stores. </p> <p>I did a little mending this weekend and took the opportunity to put a few strategic stitches in that green and white maxi dress I bought, so I am planning on breaking it out this week. I had delayed doing that because I started looking for a comparable high-low maxi, as Angie suggested for me. But I could not find one around here that I like on me as well as the one I bought. There are some beautiful ones around, but most of them cant be worn with a normal bra (lots of spaghetti straps) or are otherwise ill-fitting or unflattering on me, or i hated the fabric. I suppose I could have my tailor make a hi-low hem on the one I bought, but I'm worried it might not work. Plus, the season is tiçking away. I could keep looking and not find something until mid August -- too late to get much usage out of it.</p> <p>So I say keep looking. I bought on to this trend early ( maybe two summers ago) and apparently often!). I find them super versatile: to work w a jacket, or a nice tucked blouse all the way to a party I hosted Saturday. Taking at least one to Chicago for the upcoming weekend ( though might should rethink that since will be doing a lot of public transpo). I've recreated similar looks on my Pinterest.
