Omg nemosmom, I love that green set so much! We share a love of the slightly warmer shades of green for sure.
I could go on about this topic for a while. Suffice to say i don't wear sweat suits, preferring leggings and zippered hoodies for at-home in winter. But these will never be public outfits beyond what shows under a long puffer when i step out to do local errands. I did buy myself a matching set in eggplant this year, where previously I had only black leggings and assorted random hoodies and sweaters. I enjoy it but don't need another. I generally choose to wear stuff around the house that's been demoted for various reasons rather than specific purchases.
I love matching sweat suits in theory but just don’t love wearing the individual components (for comfort, practical, flattery, proportions reasons - track pants don’t work well with winter boots while leggings go right under them, and I prefer a sweatshirt I can unzip for when I get a bit warm).

Look at that, I did go on after all

I have one set, a navy sweater and joggers, and have only worn it as a set for car travel or lounge wear. I love it and have tried it with coats and jackets to break up the column of color. Not sure I need another set but would be interested in trying a dressy version.

Sal, so glad you are ok and hope you stay safe!!

My first purchase of 2023 was a matching sweatsuit set. I bought it with the intention of wearing it as loungewear (my loungewear was mostly demoted older tees and faded
old pants). I find that I wear it a lot, together and as separates - at home and out and about.

I find I have gravitated to more monochromatic and tonal outfits for myself, so this set fits in perfectly.

Nearly bought one last year but didn’t.Always worried that one can drift into pyjama territory if not careful but they are tempting particularly in the summer so who knows ,if l saw the right one .

Interesting-thanks all! I think for some of us - myself included- we were wired to see these as very dated in the 1990s and onwards as a reaction against the 1980s leisure suit. In fact when my son became old enough to choose clothes I told him not to natch the top to the bottom as it looked like pyjamas.

Of course there isn’t that association now - and it can look very put together to wear matching. And I have personally always liked a column of colour, suits and dresses - so it’s not a big stretch to a tracksuit.

I am not sure- I think I would need to try one on to tell- and be confident in the silhouette.

I can see why Jaime and LaPed aren’t drawn to them - and why others are.

Lisa - that’s exactly what I could see happening to me.

Angie - I am considering a dressy set - if I found the right pink trousers to match a sweater I own that would be fun.

Thanks all for the ideas too!!

I bought a brown hoodie / sweatpants combo from Old Navy a few months ago and despite imagining I’d be wearing it like a cool person with a vest or coat and funky boots , I only wear it at home . It’s gigantic on me to begin with which is a big part of the problem, but I honestly think I’m just not a fan of matched sets of things . But because I struggle so much with casual wear , maybe I need to push a little harder and see if it doesn’t end up solving my issues rather than adding to them . Did that make any sense ?

I sometimes enjoy this look on others, but find monochrome/solid columns of colour to be one of the most difficult things for me to wear. I end up feeling like a big blob! I also lack the matchy gene and rather prefer a more thrown-together look.

I have succumbed to the sets twice, but never ended up loving the combination enough to justify the set. I did a Tucker patterned silk pant set last time this was trending and a winter knit set this time, but found it too much color/print for me.

I’ve always found matching sets or suits difficult because it’s so rare that a top and bottom both look good on me. Usually the top works and the pants are awful — story of my life, LOL!

I have one matching set (other than pajamas). It’s recent, from last year. The Zadig & Voltaire blouse I bought at NAS shrank when I laundered it, as careful as I was, so I sadly returned it to Nordstrom. However, shortly after that I happened upon a similar blouse in a different fabrication, which also had a matching skirt. For grins, I tried them both on and miraculously liked the set! So they came home with me. Not as good a sale as the NAS piece but better fabric.

They look nice together, but so far I’ve only worn them separately — the top has gotten lots of wear, and the skirt a few wears (it’ll be more when spring/summer come back around).

I haven’t yet dabbled in this trend. I like it fine on other people…. But at the same time I’m in no rush really?
Possibly if I saw the right set I might go for it, however I would want it to be something that doesn’t look too pyjama ish… probably a skirt and top would be safest for my taste..
I could see you rocking a set though Sal, I really could…. One of those Serena Bute numbers!

So glad you are safe, Sal! I am very sorry for the whole scary situation.

As for the matching sets, I do wear them, both loungewear and regular clothes. For the loungewear. It is mostly inside the house thing for me, I don’t wear it outside. Sometimes I would add third piece like a vest, sometimes not.
For regular clothes, I actually wore a two piece sweater dress today (in the Finds), with black leather moto and black combat boots. I like the versatility such sets offer, as they can be worn both together or separately with other items. But as Joy said, wearing such sets is totally optional.

Sal, I'm so glad you are safe in your location, but what an awful situation for the country. The images remind me of what happened a year and a half ago here in BC, with the series of atmospheric rivers. Complete devastation in some areas.

As you know, I'm a fan of the 2 piece dress! I have a (mostly) winter one and a summer one and I wear them as separates as often as I wear them as a set. Like you, I don't wear the summer one as a set as often as I did at first. The top remains super useful, though, and I like the skirt with other tops.

I don't have a loungewear set. I did order a few velour and cotton terry sweatsuits this winter to try out, but did not like any enough to keep. I would consider one, however. I'd probably get one with a zip up hoodie so I could use different tees or tops beneath.

I have this one- bought for sleep/lounge, but I sometimes wear the joggers to the pool. The top is too short for comfort as a seperate from the combos I tried so far.
Haven't worn the pieces together yet, but maybe would try with booties and my camel coat.
I also have my print pants and matching blouse, but also haven't worn them together. Maaaybe I would with a solid topper to break up the print.

Sal, I bought my first sweat suit ever - in black, of course and really wanted to duplicate in navy, too. I I didn’t, I have to try wearing it this spring and see how I feel. When it comes to authentic wear, I would rather wear a matching set than a different sweatshirts and sweatpants.
It looks more streamlined to me. I plan to wear it with an unlined wool coat, a trench and a vest. I also want to try to wear it as is but probably with a button down shirt underneath and maybe a pair of loafers instead of sneakers.

I’m not attracted to other sets. I recently tried on a set pants plus a top in a really nice silk fabric but it look like a PJ set on me. Passed.

It's a trend and I like it, Sal! :)

LOTS of matching of tops and bottoms across all sorts of fabrics, colours, patterns and silhouettes.

I wear a SOLID dressy column of colour in a bright quite a bit. Dressy pants with matching knitwear (this look is related).

I like your version in pic #4 for Summer, but in a pattern like these Finds. I wore this in the '90s and loved it! The tops need to be shorter though.

Over the last few years matching sets or co-ords have been very popular - from the Serena Bute co-ords favoured by Trinny Woodall to the shirt and shorts sets or crop top and skirt sets.

Some examples are shown below-

Over the last couple of years I have noticed that lounge wear has moved in the tracksuit (matching) direction rather than the black pants with a different colour top.

Same with yoga gear - it's matching crops and leggings (for some - I don't wear a crop any more).

I really do like some of these looks - I do have a two piece dress which I got in 2017 or 18 and have worn a lot both as a dress or as separates.

I am not wearing it as much as I did previously any more but I don't plan to move it on.

I haven't yet got my head around the tracksuit or two piece set as loungewear - it can look great with a trench over the top or a puffer vest - or styled up - but I am struggling to think it would work for me worn solo or just with trainers - and not look like sleepwear or be flattering.

Have you purchased a matching tracksuit or coord or matching set - and if so how do you wear it?

(Thanks to those who commented in the thread about the State of Emergency here - we are absolutely fine in our location but it has been a tragic major disaster for our country - and is extremely worrying)
