As this is first time I have ever participated in a forum, I feel encouraged that several of you have become comfortable with posting through YLF. Comfortable enough in Nicole's case to take it much farther. Very cool.

It's true. I'm taking my first online course and the forum is one of the only places I am doing well! Interestingly, it's a male-dominated computer science topic (less than 20% women I believe, maybe under 10%) and 3 women (a significant percentage) all posted to say they were pretty uncomfortable with the discussion forum aspect. I don't think any men chimed in, but I wonder if women are better at confessing perceived weaknesses.
Meanwhile I cut my teeth on a bridal board 10 years ago and have been all over various forums ever since. I'm more social online than in real life, I'm afraid.

This is so true, like everything else, being a savvy forum participant takes practice - and we all make mistakes. The sky is not coming down because of that, luckily.

I agree that it's much easier to participate online after joining YLF. I was very timid at first too. I was worried my comments would look stupid and that they would be out there for everyone to see.

Good luck with your program!

Hi all
Just to share that I have found yet another benefit to participating in the YLF scene!
I started a Master's in Health Sciences Education last month, which is predominantly online, and I have found that it is much easier to participate in online discussions after having cut my teeth on the YLF forum.
Hard to remember how intimidating it was to make that first post, but it really does take some practice to become comfortable with online forum communication.
Thanks again, Greg and Angie, and all the fab fabbers!
Now, time to log in and learn about education! (Not as exciting as fashion, usually).
