Ann - that's exactly what I ended up wearing - sheer black trouser socks (as Angie suggested, of course) - and I thought that they looked good. But I wear them without socks as long as the weather permits.

JR - I think Angie left off "OK" or "fine" or something to that effect.

Sarah, thanks! I think sheer black hose might be the answer for my shoes, based on your experiment.

Angie, I think your post got cut off. Because I can't figure out what on earth you are trying to say.

I can't re-post the pic because I'm not a member yet, but here's a link to the thread where the original outfit brought up the topic:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....is-a-loser

The pants in question are black jeans - I can't really tell if they are straight leg or bootcut.

No, it's not required at all! But, I went back and found the outfit I think you mean, and you were wearing back trousers and black shoes. In this case, the square of skin showing was what the commenter was pointing out. If you were wearing lighter colored trousers and/or shoes this would not have been noticeable at all. And, there's nothing wrong with it, either! Just that covering the bit of skin in some sheer black trouser stockings might help visually keep your foot/leg all in one line.

I will also mention - if these trousers and wide at the opening then you may looking at a less than perfect pant-length. I think trousers that aren't relatively fitted at the ankle look best if the break over the shoe and skim the ground (best done with a heel). In this case the trouser itself would cover the top of the shoe except when you take a step.

Hope that helps!

It was pointed out in an earlier thread that the skin showing through my mary jane shoes broke up the line of my leg (I'm 5'4"). I was wearing them without socks.

So I started thinking... I have several pair of MaryJane style shoes. Black, brown, red, and burgundy off the top of my head. Do I need trouser socks or stockings with MaryJanes, if I wear them with pants? Do they look odd with bare skin? And if I need footwear, what color, especially with the red and burgundy? I would wear them with black or gray pants, most likely, so either way the line of the leg will be broken. Do I match the socks to the pants?
