Hey Malina,
I found the article but I don't know how helpful it will since the brands mentioned seem to be on the expensive side: Eileen Fisher, A.P.C and The Row.
One tip that might me helpful is to by Hanes tshirts and soak them in bleach. Apparently this eats away at the cotton a little and gives them the perfect texture.

Bella, that would be great - thanks! I am not looking for $100 t shirt, but I do want one that fits well after having several near misses. I used to not care much, but in the effort to make the basics count, I think it's a good place to start! My white tee before this was a $3 deal at a juniors store that's form fitting to every inch of me. Perhaps flattering figure-wise, but not the most stylish of looks I've come to realize.

My understanding is that the quality/drape/fit of the basic white t-shirt is really important to some people. There was a lengthy article in the September issue of Lucky about this topic. A few editors chimed in about their favorite brands. some of them cost as much as a pair of jeans!
Frankly, I didn't pay much attention, because I never ever wear basic white shirts. But, if you are interested I could look it up for you.

http://www.market-ts.com/basics I grabbed In-Style Makeover this morning at the checkout lane (you guys are rubbing off on me!) and Rachel Bilson has it listed as a fave staple on page 55. I have been on the hunt for a nicely draped tee. My Alternative Apparel one (in pic) shrank and twisted a little, and was also not a bright enough white to start with Frankly, my BF said it looked like just some old t shirt!
