Angie: I know! How can you stay so calm in the midst of such chaos, and when there's so much at stake, wow!
Nancy, that handbag must have been quite something. I've actually never seen one of Marc's bags irl, but judging by the amount of work and attention to detail I saw in this documentary, I expet the workmanship and quality must be of a very high standard.

I don't do netflix, but will have to try and catch this somehow.

I can't come up with more than a few items of clothing that qualified as The One That Got Away, but one of these was a stunning Marc Jacobs handbag that even pre-owned, on consignment, cost nearly $600...and those were the days when I'd never have considered it at that price, and now I would. I still think about that bag. I've never seen anything like it on ebay since. It was an outrageously gorgeous bag.

I have to run, and will chime in again later, Inge - but my main thought is that I used to not be an MJ fan - but became one after watching this documentary. I agree with your assessments by about a billion percent. I used to think I was a hard worker. Well. I'm a slacker compared to MJ. HE WORKS SO HARD! He is inspirational in many, many ways.

I was extremely captivated by this documentary. MJ never gets his knickers in a knot. He is as calm as it gets no matter what - like 30 minutes before the runway show and some of the gowns are still at the studio being sewn. I'd have had 10 apoplexies.

Hi everyone,

This time we are chatting about Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton, the 2007 documentary that follows the designer and his team(s) while they are working on a new collection for both his own label in the US and another one for the French luxury brand.

I'm really curious to hear your thoughts. To start things off, here are a few things that stood out for me:
- Marc Jacobs struck me as a very down-to-earth, disciplined, sweet and courteous man who is extremely driven but hasn't let his success go to his head.
- I am absolutely in awe of the attention to detail, and how much time is spent on getting even the tiniest details exactly right: e.g. cutting up the flowers they brought back from Japan by hand, and steaming them one by one to make sure they got the lived-in look they were after.
- What did you think of the clothes shown in both collections?
- The meeting with Yayoi Kusama - the Japanese artists known for her artwork covered with large, brightly coloured polka dots - was so disarming. It became clear that both of them live for their work, and need to create to be truly happy.
- The weeks and months leading up to a fashion show are beyond hectic and the pace is brutal: could you see yourself having to put together a jacket half an hour before a show, and staying as calm as the seamstresses in the French atelier?
- Marc's view on the difference between art and what he himself does in fashion - What did you think of Marc saying that he's always's thought of art as "being up there and fashion down there"?

Over to you, what did you think of this documentary?
