I guess my hubby is quite different because he hates tshirts with passion and never wears them except to the gym or as underwear. He also dislikes polo shirts and preferes button down shirts. In this regard I am lucky!
So from my side it was a task to get him into better fitting shirts and jeans. He is wide shouldered but slim so all these shirts with a pleat on the back were making him look like a sailboat on a windy day. At first i tried to convince him to go for slim fit in shirts and jeans but he did not want to hear; 'I like the ease of movement". Then I just bought him a couple of slim fit shirts and honestly he did not notice the differentce in 'ease": after all 'slim' fit does not mean tight fit! He does notlike to shop so it was easy for me to switch him over in this 'tricky' way. I also got him 2 pairs of BR slim fit jeans and he wears them all the time now.
I usually find slim fit shirts in Winners (Canadian equivalent of T J Maxx).

My husband also refuses to wear collared shirts outside of work and lives in crewnecks and jeans. We go to Nordstrom and the amazing sales associates help him find something that is comfy (his requirement) and current (my request). Currently he is wearing Joes jeans and diesel. They are pricey, but I think he wears each pair twice a week until they have holes in them, and then I make them cutoffs for me, so they end up with a low CPW. He used to get old navy jeans, but is now addicted to premium denim.

There is one t that my son wears that looks amazing on him. Somehow it has oomph and style. When I find it in the wash I will take a pic and get the brand, right now it is somewhere in that dirty laundry pile.

He owns a couple of button ups but will only war them when he wears khakis. He will NOT wear polos of any kind.

I am going to look into some of the jeans mentioned. I am really just hoping to upgrade the jeans and tees. And maybe get him in some new shoes.

I love him the way he is, I just want to try and up his style quotient a little. But I have to do that with jeans and crew neck tees!

You have to know your man, but my man will happily wear button down shirts if I make sure they are ironed and ready for him. I think they look way better than t-shirts so that's what I do. I don't mean fancy ones that need a tie... just casual button ups. Would he wear those if they were available? That might be a decent baby step to try.

My husband and son are both pretty much the same way!

They love these tees from jcrew factory. I usually wait for a 40% off and free shipping sale and they are less than $10 each ( so I don't panic when they aren't careful with them). They feel like an old tee that has been well loved and is perfectly comfy.

I also found I can convince my husband to wear "nicer" looking shoes if they are an outdoor/hiking brand like merrell.

My DH wears Gap 1969 Straight Fit jeans. The fit has been consistent for the past few years and they retain their colour for a good long time (washed cold/hung to dry). He is also not a v-neck guy, he mostly wears polo shirts or crew neck tees with a 1/4 or full zip sweater overtop. For shoes, he likes Skechers - they are comfortable like runners, but have both casual styles and some that pass for dress shoes.

I've found with my husband and son a baby step with those polo/golf shirts worked well. Hubby still runs around in crew neck t's and jeans but if we go out very casual I say with a collar and he grabs those. They are still super casual but with the collar, few buttons, short sleeves they look a bit better unless the t has some definite styling with pattern placement.
I know that in some geographic locations these are much worse than a t but not so here. Not sure what your area is like.

My husband has great luck at TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory... Just recently bought three pairs of Paper & Denim Jeans for $50 total! He also likes Dockers flat front slim fit khakis in grey, olive and black... He finds the Dockers at Sears and has just recently started buying Sears Structure brand for shirts... He doesn't like to spend too much on himself, drives me nuts... He too is a tennis shoes man... I did get him to go for a pair of dark brown sketchers so at least they don't look like athletic wear...
He sometimes finds things while grocery shopping at BJ's or Sam's club.

QfBrenda I guess I am looking for baby steps for him! Right now he lives in Levi's jeans and lands end shirts and New Balance sneakers. He is 6'2" with a 34" waist, so he really looks good in a lot. However, he will only wear relaxed fit.

How fashionable are you wanting him to be? I have an outside-working husband who wants to live in Carhartt jeans so I roll with it. I get him traditional fit and call it good. Black Wranglers work for church. These aren't the most fashionable options, but he wouldn't be caught dead in those, so...

DH loves Lucky Brand jeans, which he can find at Nordstrom Rack. In fact, the Rack is good for shirts and shoes, too, and he doesn't get the horrible sticker shock he gets at "regular" stores.

DH has just one pair and it's a Hugo Boss pair. He has stocky legs and took the relaxed fit and loves them. But he did try on a pair of DL1961 jeans with 4 way stretch before Christmas, and he was in love! I suspect that will be his next pair when the time comes.

ETA: I buy his jeans at TJ Maxx mostly. Bring home about 6 pr in his size and hope one works... most are returned but he doesnt like nor have the time to shop.

Where do you purchase jeans and such for your male significant others?

As I have been going through my style journey, I have been eyeing up his closet as well. He will only wear jeans unless it is mandatory he wear something else, so he has a pair of khakis he wears maybe twice a year.

He doesn't like long sleeves, too constricting he says, even in Wisconsin winter. So he has a dresser full of tees. Crew neck only, will NOT wear v neck. He got a couple of those for his birthday, and they still sit with the tags on them.

Where do you get shoes and what brands? I am not sure if he has fussy feet or not, but he wears sneakers every day, even to work. Gotta love casual dress code. So they would have to at least be that comfortable.
