This issue, I think, is that if you go with a flat, rounded toe shoe and a shorter dress you could end up looking a bit twee, especially if you are young. Pointed-toe flats, or pointed-toe flats with a kitten heel (if that's allowed) would be better.

Or, better yet, convince your BF that having a tall GF doesn't emasculate him.

This is tough. No wonder you're worried.

I dislike flats, too, because my feet will not stay in them (narrow heels and high arches). Yet I needed some (near) flats for a big trip in which I'd be doing lots of walking on rough pavements. So I got these (I found them on sale for half this price).

http://www.ninewest.ca/product.....NOL2aVh538

They worked out very well. The pointy toe was a bit dressier and elongating and the tiny wedge gave me some support.

My feet are not wide but I think unless your foot is VERY wide these could work or at least are worth a try.

I agree with unfrumped that it is possibly easier to go with a knee length dress vs. a midi, but it's not impossible to look great in a midi with flats or low heels. YLF members and especially Angie herself have done this brilliantly. If you look at some of Angie's outfit posts you will see.

Soemtimes the shorter the dress, the better a flat shoe looks. Or with a floor-length gown, the shoes just peek out. So I think sometimes a midi length is the hardest to do with flats.

Agree that if you can tolerate a pointy-toe, it makes the flat more dressy than the snub-nosed ballet flats and lengthens the leg line. As would the right type of hose. And you can find flats in patent leather or other potentially "dressy" fabrications.

Talbots and some other stores had a selection of flats, demi-wedges and low-heeled shoes--not sure all were dressy enough, though.

I'd suggest kitten heels with pointy toes (Angie had a pair in her recent Nordstrom shoe post) --- very modern/retro with a midi length dress.

Heeled flats! Otherwise known as court shoes. I know, sounds like an oxymoron right?

I googled "heeled flats" and got these:

I'm meeting my boyfriend's family next month for his sister's wedding. Normally I love dressing up for weddings - finding the perfect dress and the perfect shoes, but this is where my problem lies. My boyfriend is only about 1 inch taller than me, and I barely own any shoes with a heel shorter than 4 inches.

He normally doesn't mind if I wear heels while we're out, but because I'll be meeting his family he's asked me to wear flats. My problem is because my feet are quite wide I never really got into the ballet pump fashion. Far too much agony, and I persisted with breaking my shoes in for 3 months to no avail.

I don't really know how to wear a formal dress with flats, so my plea is for some ideas for how to manage this look. What length dresses, or what style of shoe would be appropriate?
