I feel so exactly the same way. Wandering eye, ha! I should let it wander more in my own closet, right? I'm planning ahead and trying to stay focused. I have bought some essentials (v-neck 3/4 length tees in autumn tones) and one or two other items but trying to stick with adding a few accessories like belts, shoes where needed, and really learning and forcing myself to style the clothing I already have - which is enough.

No, I don't mean focusing way more time on clothing. The opposite, in fact. I do mean getting more serious about sticking with certain items I have and not continuing to look for other things. Like, hey pants, hey tops, you're good and we're going to be together in the coming year. Certain categories of clothes--we're solid, don't need to change that for awhile.

I did an uncharacteristically early fall closet review for keep/toss and sort of re-discovered why I bought certain items in the first place--hey, that looks really good, and so why am I wearing this other thing ?-- and that I'd be happy wearing them more frequently. And that when I wear them more often, I feel fabber, and don't have as much of the wandering eye. And it re-confirmed the need to stick with this or that neckline, forget this type of shirt.

I'm not very good at the "challenge of one," which is the idea of having one coat, one bag, one pair of black pants, etc. But one construct I want to do more of is having one new item in a category and committing to wearing it quite often so I "get to know it" better" . Or identifying a group of items for a season and relying heavily on them.

I've been more of a polygamous hoarder (read carefully!) and would tend to have multiple items, backup items and save items so's they would still be there, as though I'd be so bereft if I got a stain or rip. As in oohh, maybe I will never find something like this again! And that has not worked out well, and I've missed out on having some great outfits because I didn't try some new variations and stylings of a given item. The flip side is if I don't wear something as much, I may miss out on finding the weak points, and I might duplicate it and then find it isn't so great.

So "serial monogamy" with my clothing (hey, it's fashion, not people!) may help with that and help with one of my goals to have more fun with fashion but without investing so much time & effort that I would like to use on other things--like going fun places in my outfits and spending more time with family and friends.
