Hi Joy,

Right now it isn't possible to make a reply into a post on your lookfab blog. You can only do that with a new conversation.

It is something we might add in future, but for now you would have to create a new post, either replicating the reply or linking to it. If you'd like to do the latter, then use the link on the time of the reply (e.g. "1 day ago") for a link directly to that reply.

Greg

Greg, Ornella steered me toward this thread. I was hoping to somehow put a link in my YLF blog to the challenge that I just participated in. I was challenged in someone else's thread and posted my outfits there.

My main idea can be perfectly illustrated through this example:

A while ago Windchime opened a thread about the jeans for tall ladies:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....s-purchase

I have written extensive response to it:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....st-1070840

My response contains a lot of information and I'd like to be able to access it easily in the future when I need to reuse some or all of the information for someone else.

E.g. right now I had to open my own profile and search for my response on Windchime's thread -- I remember it was on her thread -- and look for it. I found it on page 4. This is quicker route for me.
The other option would be to open Windchime's profile and look for something/anything which may be related to jeans, but it's a long shot as people may not necessarily use very clear thread titles.

Of course, it gets more complex if we don't remember on whose thread it was.

So, what I had in mind was:
- in my response to the original thread I can edit the response (using the gear icon maybe, since it's already there) and convert this response to my own lookfab blog post. This new blog post:
= (on lookfab) would be read-only (i.e. no option to respond to it directly, because that would effectively be conversation within conversation -> too complex to implement and manage)
= (on lookfab) would transfer the title from the original thread from the forum
= (on lookfab) would have the link back to the response it was created from, but on the youlookfab forum does not need to show any reference to.

Phew. I hope this makes more sense.

I can't speak for Ornella, but for me personally I like to have a record of my style evolution on my look fab blog. I like that you can look at it as a chronology, for one thing. So the types of replies that I want to make into blog posts are things like:

--outfit posts on the big wrap up threads (like picture perfect week wrap up thread, year end wrap up threads, favorite outfits threads).
--challenge entries - for picture perfect, there is just one thread for us to post our outfits, which I like because you can see all the different interpretations at once, but I also want to have my challenge outfit posted on my blog, for the sake of completeness and for future reference. Right now the only way to do this is to start a new thread.
--my replies on threads that ask a specific question, like the recent one asking how many pairs of jeans we have. My reply in that case was an inventory of my jeans, which I reported as my own thread solely for the purpose of adding it to my look fab blog. In this case, this is a reference post for me.

Thanks for replying Greg. Diana actually made it sound clearer what I also had in mind - making the reply as blog-only. I'd also make it read-only (i.e. no further comments on it on lookfabpossible. Post title can be carried over from the forum... ).

However, I understand it opens a whole new set of issues for the user, but wanted to ask in case there is something I'm overseeing in terms of using the forum as it is.

I was actually thinking the other day that this would be nice to be able to do as well! But I can see too that it would be hard to implement. On occasion I get around it by repasting my response into a new thread titled something like "for my look fab blog: xyz" but I do feel a bit bad about clogging up the forum. I'm wondering if it would be possible just to make such posts blog-only (so they don't show up in the forum)?

Hi Ornella,

Adding the ability to turn a reply into a blog post wouldn't be an easy change to make. I also worry about the complexity of that from a user's perspective.

But it sounds like a big part of what you're looking for is a better way to organize and search through your posts and replies. That is an area that we must improve and I will be working on it. :-)

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg

Lookfab blog is a great place to keep own threads easily accessible, but I was wondering if it's possible to somehow turn responses we leave on other people's threads into the separate posts on our own blogs too (without opening new threads).

Sometimes a lot of information is shared through those responses and the only way I'm aware of how I can access those info is via searching my own profile and finding specific threads. Or plain old search with keywords.

One idea: in the gear box have "make into lookfab post" option too. Such threads would on lookfab blog contain only the response-turn-post from the forum. V2 - there would be a link to original forum thread...

I hope it's not too convoluted... :-D
