Shannon, I just switched from MAC Studio Fix powder foundation to Estee Lauder Doublewear Light liquid foundation. I'd loved the powder for years, but all of the sudden it just wasn't working for me. Feeling really happy with this change!

Joy - I know EXACTLY what you mean!

kkards - I'm so glad I got the Sephora consultation. It was an hour well spent. I had never even heard of Urban Decay makeup until then. There are so many brands I'm unaware of and they have all that information.

abc - the Bare Minerals was great for me until I hit 50 and my skin started to change. We talk about keeping our style and wardrobe updated and current, so why not our makeup routine?

karymk - I totally agree about cream blush being a better option. It helps to provide a softness and hint of moisture to the face, if that makes sense. I use Provici cream blush and am very happy with it.

Susie - exactly! I want my skin to still look like skin, just better!

KikiG - yep, gotta look at ourselves realistically and not let ego or fear of aging get in the way of making the right decision. I don't wanna look like a clown! And I laughed at your third eyebrow comment...thank goodness for waxing or I'd have the "lip brow" problem - lol!

Like you and Susie, I had to lose the Bare Minerals. I'm now using Dr. Jart's BB, and it works well with some NARS finishing powder I put on with a brush.

We need to be sure to look at ourselves with our glasses on to make sure we know what we really, actually look like, and not assume we look like what we looked like the last time we actually looked. Also, I think we need someone younger than we are to keep an eye out for facial hair we may be too blind to see. Happily, my hair dresser keeps out an eagle eye for this sort of thing for me. I don't want to be the old lady with a third eyebrow--on my lip!

I had the exact same experience with the Bare Minerals, Shannon, and just very recently made a change. I think I just really looked at myself one day and realized that it made my skin look chalky.

I switched to a tinted BB cream and so far it is working pretty well. It evens things out a bit without looking or feeling like a mask.

I love the name "naked skin" because that's really what we want, right?

Foundation is a bitch!!! Like bras, jeans or bathing suit shopping! I am so glad you found your HG. I switch BB creams, love the Almay CC cream, but it does get shiny... My HG for foundation is the Armani Sculpting Foundation. You know, you reminded me that there are indeed lighter foundations out there, a bit more coverage than say a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. I totally have forgotten about that category but now I will try Armani's lighter formula out, and also check out the Urban Decay. Shannon, do you have a good cream blush? As I age I found that using the BB pot blushes worked so much better than powder because they look more like they are coming from under your skin, and not just laying on top.

PS The powder foundations never look as good to me as a cream or liquid.

Thanks for following up. You guys have made me aware that i need to keep an eye on how my mineral makeup (bobbi brown) does as I age. I'm nearing 40 and I don't want to fall into the trap of using what I always have if there could be something better for me out there.

thanks for the update. i had been using a great foundation from smashbox, but they have discontinued it. so for now i'm trying a BB cream from Dior. its better than the tint moisturizer's i've tried, which just didn't give enough moisture or coverage, for me. but getting a consult at sephora is on my list! i've always found the SA's helpful, and i love that they will take something back if it doesn't work for you.

Great news Shannon! I've used Origins makeup for a long time and recently tried a tinted SPF moisturizer from Aveda which is okay but sort of gooey to apply (I only plan to use it when I need more SPF on my face such as when hiking). The Origins liquid makeup works well for me and has for many years. It is lightweight, not greasy at all and has never caused breakouts. I use Origins pressed foundation powder just to hide flaws (fingertip application) and it works great too.

I still use bare minerals and larenim blush powders (in the lightest colors possible). They are the only ones with a light enough look for me to feel they look really natural.

Shannon, thank you for sharing your experience. I tried to find a makeup for my son's wedding and quickly realized that Bare Minerals and any like it just emphasized every pore and crease. I have liked a Mary Kay tinted moisturizer for a few years now. It evens out tones without looking mask-like. Of course, it's now been discontinued. My MK lady is gathering my shade of the discontinued product from her collegues, so I have plenty for now, but will have to find a replacement. I'll have to try the Naked Skin. I want something matte but light enough not to cover everything. I don't want to have to put back color on a blank canvas, if that makes sense.

Since there's been a few threads regarding makeup lately, I thought I would post this update in case it may be helpful/relevant to someone.

I recently switched from Bare Minerals foundation to Provici Tinted moisturizer (a local makeup brand). I had found that with my changing skin due to age and menopause, that Bare Minerals was settling into my lines and creases in an unflattering way and was making my skin look dry and dull. It had worked brilliantly for me for a few years but it was now time for a change.

I wanted a more dewy and bright looking complexion without heavy coverage and so after a fair bit of research, had settled on a tinted moisturizer. I absolutely love the look it provides and gave me the exact results I had been hoping for...BUT...4-6 weeks after starting to use the product, I am not happy. Although I still love the lighter coverage, the product is making me look greasy about half way through the day. If I wear it on its own, my skin feels dry but if I wear my normal moisturizer with this on top, I'm like an oil slick. I have also started breaking out and don't think the product works with my skin type. So onward I say.

Last week I went to Sephora and asked for a skin consultation with the most delightful young SA. She was incredible (shout out to Brianna!) - knowledgeable, patient, pleasant and not the least bit condescending to someone who was clearly twice her age. After determining my skin type, color and needs, we tried on 5 different light weight foundations. They were all more than a tinted moisturizer but provided light to medium coverage without any heaviness. In the end, we were both thrilled with the look, match and feel of Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Makeup. She gave me a sample for a week's worth of wear to make sure my skin didn't have any sensitivity to the product, that I was happy with the product part way through the day, etc. Today is Day 5 of my trial with it and I have to say I'm THRILLED. I think I might have found my Holy Grail of makeup - at least for now. I think skin changes constantly and we have to adjust accordingly. But for now, this works.

I'm not sure if this post belongs on the forum or should be in Off Topic. Angie/Greg/Inge - please feel free to move to Off Topic if that's where it belongs
