I am using less these days but don't feel the need to change much of anything since I overhauled some of my products a couple of years ago (brow pencil, etc) and they're still doing the trick for me.

I don't think I've used eyeshadow in over a year, but they're still in perfect condition so I'm not getting rid of them.

The thing I'm looking at paying more attention to is the area of serum and skincare to try to make a little bit of change in my neck/chin/marionette line issues. I can live with lines at my eyes and in my forehead, but the lower half of my face is really bothering me.

I actually had a colour consultation in 2019 which included both makeup & clothing styles. I found it useful because we could talk about things holistically (e.g. shine tends to look good on me (but more of the gold/ bronze luminescence instead of dazzling sequins) - so I can get away with a little gold dusting on my eyelids even during the daytime (even with a draped/ satin outfit) but makeup like winged liner tends to 'stand out' on me (i.e. it works as a 'look', but less so for everyday wear). I also do better with lipstick to help 'balance' my face, since I already have big eyes & well defined brows).

Obviously my exact consultant wouldn't work for you (unless you happen come from the same little town in the UK as me thought not) but I just wanted to throw out the idea that, if you're struggling with colour, an *overall* colour consult might be useful (we discussed things like my undertones, which helped). House of Colour/ Colour Me Beautiful have their own products too, but I didn't feel pressured to buy them during my consultation.

I also have sensitive skin & Mac is awful for me personally (their lipsticks don't last on me & they make me break out on my LIPS, which I didn't think was possible before that unfortunate experience lol). My solution is to keep things simple - I don't usually wear makeup but if I do, I use Fenty makeup for my skin & lips (concealer/ light contouring - no foundation) with Huda Beauty eyeshadow & Maybelline mascara (I curl my lashes too). For night, I sometimes add Fenty foundation/ lipgloss, Clinique blush (Ginger Pop) & Rimmel eyeliner, but that's it lol - my makeup bag has a few other items that I might use for a different colour occasionally, but truthfully I should probably throw most of the other stuff away by now

I hear you on wanting to revamp the makeup bag. I was going to suggest what cat2 said, to try a higher-end store, which probably has smaller crowds, and get a consult there.

I buy most of my cosmetics from Etsy shops, where they tend to offer samples (um...hence my "use it up" challenge). I will often mix powders to get the colors just right.

But I'm definitely on team Less now. No sense putting on blush/bronzer, or lipstick anymore- and they look kinda OTT on me now. I'd like to switch to tinted moisturizer, but the foundation brand I use only has one- which is probably too light for me.

Thanks everyone. Good stuff. I am going to look into virtual options.

Definitely leaning toward the less-is-more approach. I did my full pre-pandemic makeup on Easter and I felt SO MADE UP, and not in a good way!

Puts up hand.

I needed to switch things up recently and decided to try Seint (formerly known as Maskcara ) makeup. I did a virtual consult (actually just digital as it was submitting a photo of my bare face taken facing the light) and was absolutely delighted with the product. So much so that i've reordered several times and have bought additional colours /products from them. The other thing I did was start using Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer on days when I don't want full makeup. Wearing a mask every day and getting used to less makeup has been a revelation and a huge bonus - my skin is even better than before and I like the less made-up l look . I've now done away with all of my old foundations, blushes and bronzers and have a small , concise collection in one palette from Seint plus my tube of LM.

I found I wanted a warmer, slightly richer foundation colour than I had been using, and also wanted to get away from powder bronze/blush/highlighter and liquid foundation and move into creams - which Seint is all about .

Just wanted to second the idea that virtual make up consults are totally a thing now. I'm seeing this even for bridal make up.

Not much advice , but I get the feeling.
I think I am not yet post- pandemic enough to have the right cost:benefit from makeup evaluations , so my day of reckoning will be maybe next year. I’m feeling likely to dispense with foundation ( but not blush), tossing all lipstick other than MLBB, maybe tossing all eyeshadow, which was mostly unused pre- pandemic and is part of both imaginary lifestyle and imaginary face!
Then try to see if my color tones have also shifted by then.

A while back I made an appointment at the Bobbi Brown counter at Neiman Marcus and had my face done for day. You might consider a similar consult at a trusted brand in a store that has low foot traffic like that.

I've noticed that my makeup colors (foundation, concealer, lip) look slightly off, and I think it would be beneficial to reasses/ make changes. Not sure what that looks like post-Covid. I was never a fan of communal makeup/ trying samples in store, and would not entertain it now. I need a professional to help me! I havent had great luck in the past at Sephora or Ulta (could have been just unlucky a few times?) but am open to going back. My skin is super sensitive too, so i have to be careful when trying new brands. I'm currently using MAC, NARS, Lancome, and IT cosmetics.
I am wondering if anyone has gone through this recently or has any ideas.
Thanks!!
