It seems that I wrote that link incorrectly. It supposed to be http://naturalmakeuptutorial.net/ instead. I'm terribly sorry.

@texstyle - People should research more who they visit. One of the friends I have, visited one underground salon and she had to get her eyebrows tattooed. It was few years ago and her situation isn't much better.

Great advice already. Be careful not to let anyone take too much off your brows - they usually don't grow back quickly if at all and a stronger brow is better than a thin, sparse one.

What I always say, skincare comes first! Then you can apply some foundation, powder maybe some sun powder, highlighter and mascara and that's all. Natural and beautiful. Also I suggest you to read other makeup blogs and youtube channels. there are many of them. They helped me a lot. For first you could read this blog http://http//naturalmakeuptutorial.net/ .Here you can read basics. In my opinion, it should be all you need to look naturally beautiful, without looking overdone

The goal of basic makeup is nothing fancy: even out your skin, lightly define your eyes, and do something to keep your lips from looking naked.

A little foundation of whatever kind works for your skin and coloring (I'm counting "tinted moisturizer" as foundation, though personally it doesn't provide enough coverage for me); a little of whatever sort of eyeliner works to emphasize your lash line; mascara; and something on the lips. Could be colored, could be clear gloss, whatever you prefer, just so that your lips don't look completely naked.

You'll get great advice from a reputable counter, but remember that once you know what you're doing, you can get everything you need at the drugstore.

Try the make up counter but don't let them sell you half the shop I always fall for that one. Tinted moisturiser or Bb cream is nice and light and you won't feel like you have make up caked on I think brown eye shadow really brings out blue eyes a little brown mascara if you are fair skinned or black mascara if you have a darker skin tone hard to tell as photos are tiny on my phone maybe a little lip gloss clique and Art Deco have nice non sticky ones eyebrow shape and tint can help and leave you with less work to do starting of

I would highly recommend going to some kind of makeup counter or esthetician for advice. I didn't really start wearing makeup until a couple of years ago (I was 40!), and I really didn't know where to start. I went to a local spa where they offered a free makeup lesson with the purchase of $75 in makeup. I learned SO MUCH. I would have struggled a lot if I had not had the lesson, and it was so nice to have the correct colors picked out for me right from the start.

After you get a little experience under your belt, then you might find tutorials on the Internet helpful. I love Lisa Eldridge's site. But I would have been overwhelmed visiting the online sites if I had not had my makeup lesson first.

I think I would suggest starting with a book. Something like Sonia Kashuk's real beauty or Bobbi Brown's Beauty. They start with the basics but moreover help you feel empowered so that you can bring that confidence to the makeup counter.

I agree the makeup counters are the place to go to purchase and to get help, but Sephora is also a resource. They were very helpful when I was having trouble getting the right foundation recently, and provided lots of samples as they sell several different lines.

Personally, I can only really focus on one new makeup "type" at a time. I spent several days on concealer :)

I agree with going to a make up counter for advice. Laura Mercier or MAC. I would not wax my brows. Threading is better. If your skin is sensitive waxing can hurt your skin. I really regretted waxing my brows. Long story. I did recover but it took awhile.

I think you will be surprised at how a very light makeup application makes you look so much more polished! I think you should find someone who waxes eyebrows and let them do their magic, and if they offer to do your upper lip, go for that, too. Nordstrom has Anastasia Brow salons, but I go to just a local spa every once in awhile and it's well worth the $30. I'd also find a Bobbi Brown or a Laura Mercier counter and just ask for advice - I bet a peachy lip color and a little tinted moisturizer and a little eyeliner and/or shadow would just make you absolutely beautiful. You have lots to work with. You might like Bare Minerals, too, and they have stores everywhere, it seems. Don't feel pressured to buy everything (or much of anything) that they try - just make it clear that you want to walk around and absorb your new look before you come back and buy, if that's what you want.

I agree with CocoLion regarding the brows. I didn't start defining my brows until maybe in my 30's. You won't believe the difference it makes! I generally use powder rather than a pencil because I find it quicker and more forgiving. I started with Laura Mercier brow powder and brush but they stopped carrying my color. So now I use Anastasia powder. I wear no eyeshadow most days, simply because I'm too lazy. Mascara always seem to wind up elsewhere at the end of the day making me look like a raccoon. But daily must have for me is light foundation, lipstick, and light blush. Finish off with translucent powder. Literally it's a ten minute job. If you have reddish skin, they sell color correcting primer. The makeup girls at the counter can help with that. I've attached a photo showing my typical daily makeup. Hope this helps! Make up can be lots of fun, so experiment!

I like your present look, the glasses and hair cut/color really suit your face. I'm thinking more brow definition and perhaps some lip color. You could try some mascara too. The brows take practice in my experience. As does eye liner. Mascara and lip color are easy, especially mascara. Just go with black, I use Maybelline drug store type and it works fine. Just make sure you throw it away and get a new tube the moment it starts to clump.

I think using a moisturizer with SPF is essential to protect your skin.

I agree on the makeup counter suggestion from Angie, but I would add that for learning, it is invaluable to have makeup artists on YouTube, especially as you can target tutorials which focus on any aspect you may want to enhance or deemphasize...and you can watch over and over again! I like Wayne Goss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3lQnPFTwic, Kandee Johnson https://www.youtube.com/channe.....Ql72DzDurA, Michelle Phan https://www.youtube.com/channe.....QrhbKDzTng, and Makeup Geek https://www.youtube.com/channe.....siTbDAjOGQ.

Start with tinted moisturizer with SPF, mascara, and lip color (tinted lip balm is a good way to ease into wearing lipstick). Also define your eyebrows. To kick it up a notch add a cheek color and eye liner. Eye liner takes practice, so be patient and use a light touch.

YouTube has some great tutorials.

Hi there. So, I have basically zero knowledge about makeup. Colours, seasons, styles for face shape, all that kind of thing is utterly arcane to me.

Anyone able to offer some simple pointers/ideas/suggestions? Not looking for anything super outlandish, just nice ideas for styles to start learning and such :)

PS: The vest & shirt pic is the most recent one, so that's my current hairstyle.
