So I just sent this email to Nordstrom. If they respond, I will update

Hello-

This is more of a general complaint and comment. Last week I tried on this Stine Goya dress (item 5951563) at the downtown Seattle store. Your chart said an XL is equal to a US 14. I’m a size 16 in dresses, but I thought I’d at least try it one, because often your sizing is off. It was unfortunately, but not surprisingly too small in the chest.
I then realized that there is except for shoes there is almost nothing on the 2nd floor (Seattle) that would fit me. I looked at other floors and was disappointed. Anything in my size was not fashion forward.
I left the store empty handed and frustrated.
I was inspired by Batsheva style dresses and ended up finding a dress at H&M that fit me, in their store. I’m not a fan of fast fashion, but your selection, or lack there of drove me elsewhere
Nordstrom, from my understanding has enough market share to put pressure on designers. According to your website, this Stine Goya dress is exclusive to you.
In the past you have embraced expanding size ranges, but I feel that you are no longer walking the talk, or even talking about it. Very little of the offerings, even online are interesting in my opinion. And given I’m in cusp sizes, if I search by XL, I will get items from designers that consider an US 10, an XL, even though your drop down sort list says otherwise.
I get emails often about the new designer offerings, and well it’s pointless.

Anna

Yes, notsaf. It is definitely an hourglass problem, too. I have this with a lot of dresses I try on — either the boobs or the hips are too tight, and when I try to size up, the cut is too long in the torso or the overall fit just doesn’t work — too much fabric in the back, armholes are too loose and low, etc. A lot of designers — especially pricier labels — just cut too straight for many of us.

Nordstrom is not walking the talk at all. There is far less above a size XL available in stores. Their idea of size inclusivity was cutting back on plus sizes and extending some in house brands to XXL instead but only in limited colors and usually not carrying that size in stores. I do not see them pushing designers to be more size inclusive as they suggested.

Thanks all.
Nordstrom has some major pull in the retail market, and could influence designers. But except for Good American, which was pushed on them I really don’t see them walking the talk. And Good American is barely visible at the downtown Seattle store.
Yeah Jaileen, sorting by size doesn’t work on their website, when they go by the designer sizing, Large = 8. At least Net-A-Porter gives realistic sizing advice with garment measurements, though they have no larger sizes.
Honestly I was looking for a pick-me-up, after dealing with a medical appointment with Dad. I was so argh after that, I bought nothing at Nordstrom or the Rack; ended up getting some cute post-it’s at Daison

ETA, I’m fully aware I’m overweight/fat/obese, but I don’t have the mental energy to deal with it right now.
