I too have very white skin, but I actually like it and don't want a tan. From a 'healthy glow' perspective, might a little blusher do the trick?

Good luck!

I use Bare Minerals serum as foundation. They now have a liquid bronzer and I add just a drop or 2 to my foundation if I want a bit more color. It's not loaded with chemicals and doesn't look orange at all. Plus it feels like wearing nothing.

I use Laura Mercier illuminating moisturizer just about year-round, and as long as I'm moisturized beneath it (Clinique moisture surge) it looks very natural and slightly glowy. Sometimes I wear it alone (like today), sometimes I mix it with regular LM tinted moisturizer in nude, sometimes I use it as a base for Bare Minerals original foundation powder applied sparingly... but it's become a must-have for me. I really don't tan anymore - I splotch/freckle/illuminate-a-scar - and this is as good as it gets for something approximating sun-kissed.

Splotchy redness and dark circles likely have a lot to do with lifestyle (diet, sleep regime, etc). I'd start looking for a fix there instead of face paint. My skin tone is very pale. I mean, even in the summer at my most "tanned", I'm lighter than most people's winter color. It is what it is. And what it is, is porcelain skin. You just need to take good care of it - SPF, hydration, good diet, etc.

I'm not sure about the chemical content but I got a sample of this free and like it. My skin is somewhat pale and bronzers can look too orange on me. If I blend this well, I think it looks pretty natural. I'm not sure, though, how it will look in the depths of winter. It might be just a bit too much to pull off. It also feels like you're not wearing anything at all.

A few ideas...
Consider adjusting your hair color.
Josie Moran makes a nice, natural tinted moisturizer.
I love facial mists for dewy skin. Especially helpful to dull winter skin.

I use sunscreen all year round. I spent a lot of time in the sun when I was younger before there was sunscreen. I tanned easily. I stopped tanning decades ago.
I do use Jergens gradual tanning lotion on my body for special events. I start about a week before. For my face I don't use anything on a daily basis but for special events I use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. Lately I have been liking one by Smashbox. Their shades are very warm so they may not work for everyone. I do have very golden skin. I also use a bronzer by MAC. I dust it across my face in no particular way. The shade I use is golden.

No bronzers of fake tan for me. I also wear sunscreen year round. Years spent as a lifeguard took their toll. I've had too many pre-cancerous moles removed for me to ever want to take any risks.

Coincidentally, I just taught my students today about how UV light (eg. from the sun) causes mutations in our DNA.

No tanning for me!

In fact, I don't leave the house without sunscreen. I was teased terribly when I was younger for having such pale skin and avoiding sunbathing while living in such a beachy/surf city. I'm grateful now because I have pretty good skin, although I have had some skin cancers removed. Imagine if I tanned!

So, I embrace my pale skin, and wear a rosy pink blush that seems to give me a healthy glow. I don't have any chemical sensitivities, so I have no problems with wearing a little faux tan on my legs and sometimes shoulders in the warmer weather either.

Wow - I am trying so hard not to get any sun, after seeing that trucker's picture. I am slathering on sunscreen everyday. Considering I am out walking the dogs everyday, I've been pretty successful - I have practically no tan whatsoever.

These work really well for imparting a faux tan. Healthy or no, tanning is too risky. Take it from me, years of baby oil in Texas sun plus tanning bed = malignant melanoma. Dodged a bullet by the skin of my teeth.

I'm wearing a slightly different shade of foundation this summer (a warmer tone) and will switch back to my cooler one come fall. I don't mind looking pale through the winter. Perhaps with the right foundation to smooth out the skin tone, a close match to your actual skin tone would look good in cooler months, too.

I struggle with pale skin too. Have you tried using a bronzer? There are a lot of natural makeup lines now, and maybe you could find a suitable shade without a lot of chemicals. There are cream bronzers too, which I assume would have more staying power if you're not putting on foundation, etc.

I also use something called Mosaic Illuminator from Zuzu Luxe, a natural makeup company. It helps even out the skin tone and makes me look a little healthier. It's just a powder with various colors in it. I think that many makeup companies have products similar to this one. Some of them are quads, with four colors, usually white, brown, pink, and yellow.

Sometimes it is helpful to spray a little bit of toner or rosewater on the face after applying a powder like this to help it stay on better. Otherwise I think it wears off faster.

ETA: Dr. Hauschka makes a nice liquid bronzer that wouldn't have lots of chemicals.

Have you had a good beauty stylist pick your tinted moisturizer color? I never would have picked the one I use, and I make sure to really smooth it in, so the color correction works. Otherwise it does look off.
I use Laura Mercier.

How do you maintain the summer glow through the cooler months? I'm loath to tan for tanning' sake, but am often told that I look "healthy" and better in the summer time, when a slight tan helps even out the splotchy redness and dark circles on my otherwise pale face.

Tinted moisturizers are an option, but I'm a stickler about the chemicals I wear and find TMs leave my skin with a greasy, orange tinge.

What helps you maintain a summer glow, be it cosmetics, food, or supplements?
