Well I commend her for putting up with that idiotic interviewer! Love her or hate her, I have always admired what a hard worker she is. She must work incredibly hard to maintain this level of perfection. I hate to judge too much. We want to look beautiful in our 50s but are condemned for altering ourselves too much.
If I look at the pictures artistically, they don't do much for me. I would rather see something more raw. I remember Madonna as always doing something shocking and the don't quite hit the shock point for me which I think it the point your are making karymk.

I was always a big Madonna fan, and yes, she is still stunning. However, I'd like to see her set an new example that doesn't always equate empowerment with nudity. It's cliched at this point, be it Beyoncé or Mads.

No, not very exciting, but I rather like the make-up. Oh, I know who the make-up look reminds me of... Effie in Hunger Games! I like Effie. She's hilarious. Won't leave her room in the underground shelter because she doesn't have her wigs, not until she remembers... head scarves!

I don't get Madonna. She's got very conservative desires. Her biggest dream is an M.R.S. degree. In which case, she should really put on some clothes.

I think a bit part of Madonna's issue is that she reached such a crazy level of superstardom that she lost touch with what most people experience as reality. I know a couple of people who have had interactions with her, and it sounds as though she lives in a bubble, which makes sense. So, yeah, maybe this is all she knows to project, which is kind of sad, IMHO. If there is more to her, she's not very in touch with it.

i was never a great Madonna fan, but i always had a lot of respect for her as a business women. but in the last few years, even that respect has been waning. she seems stuck. i remember being at the hair salon a few years ago and there was a Madonna spread in one of the magazines, and these 14yo girls were positively aghast over the her attempt at trying to be young. for someone so great at reinvention in her early career, her mid life seems a long repeat. here's hoping that she figures it out soon, and that her next move is a move forward.

These don't bother me, partly because they are in Interview magazine, which has a whole extremely manipulated reality aesthetic. My favorite is probably the fourth one in the black jacket if only because she looks the most formidable. If every photoshoot from her newest era was the same vibe, I might be less into it (I don't know if they are?).

I haven't checked out her newest songs, just read reviews, but I was really disappointed in Gimme all your lovin and the last era -- because of the teen pop thing. I expected a different POV from Madonna I guess. I don't think it has to do with age but rather experience and insight, Lorde's pop lyrics are far more mature/self-aware to my mind than Taylor Swifts have usually been for example even though Lorde is younger.

My birthday is the same as Madonna's (August 16th). So I've always kind of felt... interested? Does astrology matter?
I've always been a fan of her fitness level, I like some of her music but style icon - she's certainly not! She could always use a little more taste, especially now. I think if you are Madonna, and the whole world has seen every inch of your body multiple times, you can stop exposing yourself just for that reason, even if "sexy" is what you feel you are, even if your body still looks great, even if you want the whole world to see that you haven't aged a bit since forever...
I think she's very smart in some things (like how to build a mega star out of yourself on the foundation of sheer guts and attitude) but she lacks that philosophical understanding of life which most people gain with age and which puts them at ease regarding this irrational fear of aging and the desire to still be 20 when you are not. That's probably a trait of every vain and stubborn person. She's immature in a way. And if I'm right and that's what she is, these photos ARE the real her. I mean seriously, if somebody asks you to present some photos that reflect who you really are, you probably won't choose "just rolled out of bed" look. You'll try to show your character. I guess Madonna's character is this, she's not growing up, she's not getting wiser, or kinder, or less competitive even after having proven herself to the world hundreds of times. I guess there really is nothing more to her than "sexy" and "bitchy". Why am I not surprised?

But any famous person now is basically incapable of showing themselves "as they really are". When everyone else is photoshopped within an inch of their life, it is all but impossible not to try to compete on the same level. Even "real" photos of Madonna would be black and white with just the right shadows, and the cigarette would look anything but unexpected, IMO.

I, too, find it kind of sad that she thinks she needs to compete at this level. She has proven herself time and again and there is no one who would argue her place in music history. She is legend, even if she retreated completely from public view at this point. So for her to think she needs to do the same things as the young and coming-up stars (who only wish they could have the longevity that Madonna has had) if unfortunate. She INVENTED the campy-sexy and then the serious-sexy genres for women in music. Why return to the same old stomping grounds?

Like I say of almost all women (regardless of age), her value is not exclusively in her sex appeal. It never was. She looks amazing, but the queen of reinvention has been stuck and grinding gears for a decade now.

Funny, hubs and I were talking about her last night after seeing a mini-review of some of her new music. It sounds like she's still trying to be a pop star, in essence competing with Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, etc. IMHO, this is what's going on with her entire image shtick. It worked for her into her 40s, but now it's just seeming played out and a little sad. Maybe this once had some shock value, but it doesn't now. For someone who was so brilliant at reinventing herself earlier in her career, this seems a little tone-deaf to what would really appeal to the audience who would be most interested in her. Either go really all-out campy (a la Cher) or get real and give people the sense that there is more to her at age 56 than the light-kink sexpot pop star image that played 20+ years ago.

Madonna was the queen of re-inventing herself but seems to be stuck now that she has hit her 50s. Not that I am trying to hijack but another famous woman who seems to be trying a bit too hard (to me) is Halle Berry. Yes, they both look amazing for any age, but somehow the need to prove it emphasizes the age rather than de-emphasizing it. KWIM?

I don't remember if this topic made an appearance on YLF. If it did I missed it.

http://www.interviewmagazine.c.....ow_71352.1

What did you think? I think the photos themselves are beautiful, artistic, sensual, raunchy, shocking. Just what we'd expect of Madonna. Sigh, now give us the unexpected. Lay yourself bare in a new way for us Madonna!

What would really provoke IMO is Madonna sans artifice, pretension, sans ART. Just her in her bathrobe, loose breasted, no face paint or cheekbone glotion. No porny props.

A chopstick holding her twisted hair up? A deadpan gaze. A cigarette maybe.

There must be more to Madonna than kinky glamour at 56 years old and I would PAY to see it!
