I just returned from a Road Scholar tour that encompassed hikes on several parts of the Camino de Santiago and concluded in Porto. This rainbow greeted us as we exited the restaurant after dinner on our final night.

I have multiple friends who love it so much they’ve moved there! (One has since moved back to the states due to her business but may be reconsidering.) I’ve heard really nice things about Porto in particular.

I have not been there yet, but I am planning on walking the Camino de Santiago this fall, so the hike will end close to Portugal and would consider a visit while I’m there (my husband will meet me at the end of my trek).

Check out High heels in the Wilderness blog. Sue, a retired teacher from Canada, visited Portugal with her husband, I think last year, and has detailed accounts. If i remember correctly Porto was one of the places visited.

We've been there twice now. Lisbon is great if you like a more urban feel. Madeira was our favorite and went right after new years. It was quiet and warm in the 70s. I would go back to do the hikes since hubby ended up getting COVID at the time. Porto is beautiful and a few hours away on a train ride. Unfortunately, our trip was wet and rainy but we ad a few sunny days.

I have been to Portugal many times as my sister has a holiday home in the Algarve. Porto is really gorgeous I have been there twice. Lisbon is beautiful but like any capital city can be busy. The west coast can be windy and wet while the Algarve is very sunny and warm. I have never visited Madeira.

My step-daughter lived in Porto for a year. The weather was cool and often rainy, she said, but the architecture was beautiful and she liked the city. I have not visited but I would like to!

Porto is my favorite larger city in Portugal (so far). Even considering real estate there. Depending on when, the weather is chillier and more rainy than further south. We were there in March 2 yrs ago, and had rain/60's F.
Have not been to Madeira. (yet).
You can see all of Portugal in 2-4 weeks!
Sounds wonderful.

To answer your question: yes, I would recommend. Portugal is a beautiful country with nice weather, beautiful beaches, luxurious vegetation and tasty food.

I have been in Portugal many many years ago. I remember being disappointed by Lisbon (like Milan in the peak hour) but I loved Madeira! A delicious place with beautiful vegetation. You can taste the original Madeira wine there.

We travel to Portugal last year in October. We visited Lagos in Algarve and Lisbon. Lagos coastline was breathtaking, unique beaches. I even swam almost every day although water was not exactly warm. Loved our stay there. Lisbon was interesting but crowded.

DH and I are hoping to do a trip or two over the next 12 months, and considering options. We’d like to go to places we’ve never been before, for trips from 2-4 weeks. Madeira has come up in conversation recently, as has Porto. Both in Portugal. For the combination of good weather when things aren’t so nice in Ontario, Canada and a good mix of R&R vs (cultural) activities. Madeira was mentioned because it was quiet and was beautiful in a natural way.

Have any Fabbers travelled through Portugal? Stayed in Madeira? Porto? What opinion have you formed of the country/place, and would you recommend it?
