What? No! That's awful. I'd be really annoyed too.

I'm not as experienced as some in terms of ordering online, since I never order clothes for myself, but I do order things from Hanna Andersson or Mini Boden occasionally for the kids. If I'm not here, the postal worker leaves a note on my door saying the parcel is available for pickup at the nearest post office. They don't leave boxes on my front porch (boxes that would, indeed, be visible from the street). Is it possible to arrange for that to happen next time you need something shipped?

I don't care for FedEx service, where they just drop it off and turn tail. My UPS guy wouldn't do that. I had a FedEx package show delivered and I was very upset because I had been home all day. Turns out they really couldn't find it. Some days later a woman who was getting a delivery asks her FedEx driver if she should walk the misdelivered package to my house or would he take it. He delivered it to me. I ended up with replacement items sent out by the store as well, for free. I had complained in strong terms.

I'm pretty sure that either AE or FedEx will have to replace it. You ordered it and never received it. It's not your fault that they left it on your steps and it was stolen. And, if they won't replace it, just have your credit card challenge it. I'm sure that they will reverse the charges since you never received it. Boo, for not just having it right now, though. It's always a pain to have to deal with the hassle of getting something recovered or replaced.

So sorry this happened to you! Call FedEx, because as I recall they have some liability for packages left without a signature. I had two FedEx packages stolen last year. My house is on a street that gets a lot of traffic. The company had to reship the items and submit a claim to FedEx to recoup their loss. Unfortunately, my delivery driver got stuck with the tab because the company holds him at fault when he leaves packages and they go missing. He learned a valuable lesson, though. Now, if no one answers he keeps the items on the truck and comes back on Saturday when he knows someone will be home.

Gaaah, how annoying! I would definitely check with AE and Fedex - one or the other may have insurance on missing packages. A lot of big retailers will replace stolen packages without much hassle. (For example, Amazon has always replaced missing/stolen packages for me at no additional cost - all they asked me to do was wait an extra week to make sure it did not show up late, and then they mailed me a new one.)

My current building is pretty secure (in a safe neighborhood, plus the place where packages are left is not visible to anyone not actually entering the building) but in the past I have had important packages sent to my work or left a note asking the delivery man to ring my neighbor's doorbell if I don't answer.

Anyway, hope this works out soon in your favor.

FWIW, several years ago I had a package *supposedly* delivered, but I'm sure it never was. I live in a supposedly *safe* neighborhood, and because my front door is 44 steps up, deliveries can't be seen from the street. FedEx had holiday help that probably got lazy at the end of the day. I had to go 'round & 'round with both vendor and FedEx, but I eventually got my credit. I had to order the item elsewhere because by then, it had run out.

More recently, and again in December, I dropped off a package at a FedEx located in front of a small U.S. Post Office branch. It never made their tracking system and it never made its destination. It took me awhile to realize it never arrived, and by that time FedEx had probably shredded it.

Both FedEx and vendors have insurance, so I hope you can at least get your $50 credit. I have also had problems with UPS; sometimes packages don't get scanned in. I recently figured out that three pairs of shoes that Zappos should have credited me with never were. Zappos is very good about this, and once even credited a UPS box containing four pairs that somehow got lost in the ether.

I think Fedex would need to cover this. I would notify both Fedex and American Eagle.
Actually, this happened to us a few times with Amazon, and they immediately sent out another package, no questions asked. But of course, Amazon has excellent customer service and that's why I try to order all of my online purchases from Amazon if I can. Still, I think either Fedex or AE should cover it.

Wow that's terrible. I always wonder how mine aren't taken since my UPS man just stacks them in front of my door, but it is off the street somewhat and I do have neighbors who are home across the street. I think I'd say I never received it and they'd have to prove it was delivered.

I know, Lisa, right? Maybe they thought they could sell it.

In Boston, these tiny little condo buildings that are redeveloped "triple-deckers" are completely on their own.

I think I'll start with FedEx. I can't really prove anything (like, that it was placed outside rather than in the foyer). If that doesn't work, I'll ask AE for advice. And yeah, apart from being a slave to being stuck at home all day to guarantee being there to sign (and I signed up specifically so that they WOULDN"T need a signature, because it's so bloody inconvenient when you miss them), I'm seeing that online can have its major hazards.

I always thought that Fedex and UPS shipments were automatically covered in case of loss. Here is what their webpage says.

The declared value of any package represents our maximum liability in connection with a shipment of that package, including, but not limited to, any loss, damage, delay, misdelivery, nondelivery, misinformation, any failure to provide information, or misdelivery of information relating to the shipment. It is the shipper's responsibility to prove actual damages. Exposure to and risk of any loss in excess of the declared value is assumed by the shipper. You may transfer this risk to an insurance carrier of your choice through the purchase of an insurance policy. Contact an insurance agent or broker if you desire insurance coverage. WE DO NOT PROVIDE INSURANCE COVERAGE OF ANY KIND.

With respect to U.S. express package services, unless a higher value is declared and paid for, our liability for each package is limited to US$100. For each package exceeding US$100 in declared value, an additional amount will be charged. See Rates in the FedEx Service Guide for details.

FedEx Ground liability with regard to any package is limited to the sum of $100 unless a higher value is declared at time of tender and a greater charge paid as provided in the FedEx Service Guide.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I live in a condo unit and we have a security patrol. And we had lots of theft right around the holiday's. I lost a couple gifts and had to reorder. I am currently shying away from online ordering because I cannot be home to guarantee I receive a package. It's frustrating! And I don't understand why someone takes a package anyway. You don't know what's inside or that it will work so why take it right?

My FedEx package from American Eagle was stolen off my front porch!

One more time: %$##@$*@#&%&#T$#*&$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The scheduled arrival of the package was for the afternoon when I was to be already in New York for the meetup, and hubby was not going to be around either. I live in a three-unit condo. I emailed the other two units to say I was going to be gone...have done this many times, and someone always fetches the package for me. Well, this time it seems like they didn't even have a chance. One neighbor said she never saw it; the other one didn't either. Unfortunately I could well see the package being swiped if it was left outside. I live in a "gentrifying" neighborhood that has some sketchy living around here. (Subsidized housing next door, for example.)

It's not my neighbors' fault, though I am just disappointed....I didn't take out insurance on it, but FedEx could have opened the front door (which is always unlocked) and placed the package in the foyer, where it would have been safe. That is what usually happens, but this time they must have just dumped it on the porch where it could be seen from the street and obviously someone could walk up and take it.

I wonder if I have any recourse with FedEx? That's probably my only chance. AE shipped it out and is not liable.

Did I mention that I was @#$%#$#$#$ mad and am also feeling rather depressed over this? I know it's a stupid $50 jacket and not a big deal in the larger scheme of things, but I'm feeling really let down.

(going to dive under the covers and read a book and drink a cup of tea now...)
