I think it's the colour too. The style and colour seem quite harsh for your playful, girly and whimsical style. The flaps are part of the boots and they fit really well around the calf actually, so that is not the problem. </p> <p>My suggestion would be to return these and opt for a "flapless" style that is stacked and sleek - much like Jonesy's new black boots. As far as this specific pair goes - I think they gap too much at the top. Have you measured how wide your calves are? - have your measured how wide the part of your leg is where the top of the boots end? The description says that the boots are 15 inches wide - that is pretty wide - there are lots of boots out there with narrower shafts that I think would look better on you! The website makes it look as though they should be smooth all the way up (or more closely fitting?) where the pair you are showing look to be a bit slouchy above the ankle. Then they'd be a bit taller, and the gap at the back would make more sense as it would be right behind your knee. Beautiful boots, so if there's the option available I'd go back and get some that are more snug around the leg. Or you could wear them over skinnies and pull them up that way?
