<p>Rachylou, I hope the hens were good. Thanks for popping in from your vacation to see this through! </p>
<p>Lady painter, it feels good to get some love for those—I expected objections. But now I might not get them anyway, because of the other shoes I found in the meantime (different post—they’ll probably be work shoes, but are not for interviews) and because I actually have dark blue lace up wingtips with a 3” heel on a slow boat on its way here. These are sort of between those two, so probably not needed.

<p>I like that abstract patterned dress on you. The lace-up heeled oxfords are very Euro to my eye, good for fitting into your environment, but maybe don’t go with the dress (would need to see them together). They’d be great for trouser suits or midis, though.

<p>Holy fast fashion Batman! DHL was on our doorstep this morning with the stuff from Only. I tried it on right away, so you all get to see what kind of morning people we are (very poor ones. We are not smiley in the morning). It is the jacket shown with the dress on the site. </p>
<p>I think this one is a go. I’d still like to get the texture dress and Nordstrom blazer, so I have a second act. That depends on people being willing to order/ship them for me. </p>
<p>I made a collection of my work clothes with everything I have here and on the way that I think would work. Some of the things are only listed in the description, not shown, but many of those are pictured in my fall and winter challenges last year—I can move those photos over if people want. Final conclusion is that there is plenty of room for a good dress and blazer in my work capsule, even if those wind up being worn for conferences and not daily office life. </p>
<p>Anyone willing to have my order from the Rack land on your doorstep, and then to send it to me? Please message me and let me know what banking apps you use, so I can pay you back for the shipping.

<p>Just looked at the two Rack jackets.&nbsp; The "Ela" one button comes in navy - would look good with the navy dress.&nbsp; Both blazers are fine I think - the "lapel-less" one actually has lapels - their just designed to be flattened out, you can see the notches - a little touch of "fashion" but mild enough for an interview.

<p>I like the Street One dress (the black one with white pattern)&nbsp; They even show it with a black blazer - looks good!.&nbsp; Silver chain would be fine with this combination I think.
</p>
<p>EDITED:&nbsp; I just realized the dress is a dark navy.&nbsp; Looks like they show it with some kind of dark blue cardigan or jacket.</p>

<div>There's also this option. I had wanted to stay in the country, or at least on the continent, with my purchasing, but this may be my best option. What do you think? I like the second one better, but don't know if not having lapels is too weird. <br /></div>

<p>Rachylou, nope, but in a slap-my-forehead d’oh kinda way I realized I can probably ask my neighbor to order them for me, if I give her cash. </p>
<p>Binkle, thank you. I appreciate the advice. I’d far rather be dressed conservatively and employed than neither of them. What do you think of the “new” favorite dress from Street One? </p>
<p>I don’t wear earrings, was thinking of a silver necklace to go with grey. A little more than a chain, but no baubles. Does that sound right?

<p>Good morning from California!</p>
<p>Hose - very sheer black would be ok (i.e. not opaque or tights-like), or sheer nude (yes a bore but if you are willing to pay up a bit on the stockings, nude can look very nice - Wolford is definitely "paying up" to me ;-). And an extra pair in your tote for an emergency.</p>
<p>Shoes - maybe not the patterned flats.&nbsp; Too casual/clashy (in a mild way) with a business look to me.&nbsp; Low heel pumps 1-2 inches.&nbsp; I'm thinking of US brands like Naturalizer - a brand I've used for conservative interview shoes.&nbsp; though the shoes would probably be ok once you are settled into the job and have a sense of the every day wardrobe.</p>
<p>Jewelry - I'm personally anti-jewelry for interviews (curmudgeon) other than non-costume simple earrings or simple gold necklace.&nbsp; </p>
<p>Sorry this is only my experience - I'd hate to tell you DON'T do x y or z when they might be perfectly acceptable to the field you are in.

<div>Update:</div><div>I can't use my Visa card from a US bank on the Only or Taifun websites. I like that texture dress, so will try to get up to the store in the next couple days. I assume it will be at least as much of a crapshoot as Peek &amp; Cloppenburg was. <br /></div><div>I put the "this is my fave" note next to the wrong dress, and the link to my actual favorite didn't work. I just fixed those things in the original post. This is the dress I like best. <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.street-one.de/All-Styles/Business-Chic/Aermelloses-Jacquard-Kleid-night-blue.html">https://www.street-one.de/All-.....-blue.html</a></div><div>This blazer isn't the classic flannel wool; what do you think of it? <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.street-one.de/All-Styles/Business-Chic/Dunkler-Zwei-Knopf-Blazer-Black.html">https://www.street-one.de/All-.....Black.html</a></div><div>I *can* order from the Street One site where they are.<br /></div>

<p>Thanks Suntiger. Your daily look is more formal than mine has ever been, and is still colorful and fun, so I may well be copying you in the near future (fingers crossed that I'll have reason to do so!) Taifun is the maker of the blue dress in the "dressing room" post. Even though I appear to have dresses figured out, I'm still heading over to their site now, because I think they are more likely to have interview-appropriate blazers than these fashion companies.

<p>I think the first dress would be fine even without a blazer, but maybe with the burgundy one from the other post? Especially if you're going to use those loafers, burgundy would harmonize it all . I have bare legs for interviews if warm enough, its completely normal in my area. Black tights to me seem too heavy for all but deep winter to me.<br />
I hope your son is feeling better! I think you should surprise him with something special hes been wanting if you can:)<br />

<p>Low blood sugar has woken me up! So here I am, haunting your thread! Lucky you! Lol.</p>
<p>A deliberately darker grey blazer would be nice. I’d add a necklace or earrings to liven it up, yes. And I think I wouldn’t do patterned shoes in this case... all the attention would then be on your feet, and that’s a bit of a ‘why?’</p>
<p>I may be too American for black hose. That seems so heavy to me. I’d probably do nude or grey. I always wear thigh highs; pantyhose are way way too uncomfortable. Hate em!

<p>Thank you both for sharing your years of experience with me! </p>
<p>Would a deliberately different (darker) shade of grey work with the textured dress? Do I get anything to relieve the grey, maybe a moderate length vintage necklace from a flea market? </p>
<p>For shoes, are my loafers ok for the grey? Color wise, I think they will be, but what about biz rules? I don’t think the patterns in the dress and shoes would work well together. </p>
<p>Bare legs are apparently still a no-go here. Black tights? I really don’t like the feel of thin pantyhose (unless I happen to find Wolford or maybe Falke on clearance). </p>
<p>I’ll look for more classic fabric to go with either dress. and use the longer blazer as a back-up. Binkle, thanks for telling me the blend. I’ve never done this before, so need to learn everything. The example of printed patterns was just one example. I’m sure there are many other I don’t know about. Blazers are worn casaully here—I don’t want to look like I stopped in on my way to buy some eggs at the market. </p>
<p>Thanks for your good wishes for my son! It’s nothing serious, just a little bug. And since I slept 11 (!) hours, I might be picking it up too.

<p>I like the Texture dress and the Classic blazers. I don’t know tho that I like the idea of one of those blazers in grey with the grey dress. They’ll be an off match in greys and material. That leaves black and it’s not your favorite. I’m debating whether I think your interview blazer needs to be in a suiting material. I’m thinking not, if the blazer is sharp enough on.</p>
<p>Ps: Yes. When I’m sick, my 80 yr old mother MUST make tea and toast for me. It’s the only way.

<p>I think you are quite right to keep it somewhat reined in for the first interview.</p>
<p>Is there any way you can scope out the culture ahead of time<br />
- hang out near the building/lobby, see if their website has team or individual photos, etc.? </p>
<p>To forwarn you: I am an old school curmudgeon regarding interview wear (my most recent experience has been at financial companies in the US). So with that in mind:</p>
<p>Texture Dress – very interview appropriate I think.</p>
<p>Single Button Solid Blazer – looks like a type of jersey fabric – but the pattern doesn’t look printed on if you are worried about that.</p>
<p>Single Button Classic Blazer – some kind of textured weave – not printed on – but looks a little short/skimpy even on the model.</p>
<p>Two Button Solid Blazer – same fabric as the single button solid version? – cut seems a little too cropped/style-y for my taste in an interview jacket.</p>
<p>No Button Classic Blazer – I like the longer style</p>
<p>However – the fabrics, especially in the grey versions of the “solid” blazers, read more casual to me – i.e. they are not grey flannel wool . They look like stretchy jersey blends – which is absolutely ok, but I repeat I am an old school curmudgeon. Since the pinstripe dress is blue, I think you could do the no-button classic blazer in grey – the tweedy weave is more a more deliberate texture contrast to the dress.</p>
<p>Otherwise, the Texture Dress with a black blazer.</p>
<p>I’d suggest you go try these on in the different combos, if you can. And to confirm you like the textures/weaves of the fabrics.</p>
<p>And I think you asked this in your other post – I would not take off the jacket if you wear the sleeveless dress, at least for the first interview. I would not take the jacket off in any circumstance anyway (old<br />
school!!!!)</p>
<p>I hope your son feels better soon!</p>

<p>
<div>So I have a nifty new tweed cardi/blazer, like I've wanted for a long time, and I know where there's a cool and fairly expensive blazer that is great on me. Now all I need is something for an interview.</div><div><br /></div><div>I need something that looks moderate/conservative at first glance, but that has some hidden special thing (ie a "lurking quirk", or it could be something lux). The field I'm looking for work in straddles very conservative and very alternative sides. I don't know which way sensibilities will skew. It may vary from one person to the next, and dress codes may shift according to what's on the agenda. Purple blazers and floral dresses might be fine later, but I think I need to be a bit more reined in at first. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>The items I liked best--the blue dress, the grey and pink blazers--are from labels that each have their own stand-alone stores, as is the grey long cardi. I'm checking each of their sites out, don't know yet if I'll be able to use my foreign Visa card or if I'll need to schlepp to their stores. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>My question on all the blazers is "is it real?" It seems to be a thing these days to print patterns that traditionally are made by the weave, hence tops with glen plaid and herringbone sweatshirts. Those aren't "real" by the definitions I'm using here. I don't know the first thing about blazers, so my first question about any of these is if they're really real. I don't want to show up in a play/pretend blazer. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Dresses and skirts are easy by comparison. I know I don't want a full skirt that would look flowing or flouncy. I do well in sheathes. I <i>do </i><i>not </i>do well in shifts (even those that look straight), A-lines/trapeze dresses, or pencil skirts (same knock-knee issue that makes chinos a no-go)<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Finds don't work (what? He hasn't hooked up small labels in other countries yet? Slacker!) (&lt;-----absolutely not serious), so I'm pasting in links to things I think could work. If any of these look workable, please note colors that do/don't work. Black tends not to be good for me unless it is modified--heathered, charcoal, etc or worn with some other color. I'm not planning to go into the brown trend. Comments and suggestions are appreciated!</div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/dresses/texture-dress-15172412.html?cgid=on-dresses&amp;dwvar_colorPattern=15172412_DarkGreyMelange"><a href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/dresses/texture-dress-15172412.html?cgid=on-dresses&#038;amp" rel="nofollow">https://www.only.com/de/en/on/.....s&#038;amp</a>;</a></div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/blazers/solid-blazer-15147327.html?cgid=on-blazers&amp;dwvar_colorPattern=15147327_LightGreyMelange_618685"><a href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/blazers/solid-blazer-15147327.html?cgid=on-blazers&#038;amp" rel="nofollow">https://www.only.com/de/en/on/.....s&#038;amp</a>;</a></div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/blazers/classic-blazer-15157721.html?cgid=on-blazers&amp;dwvar_colorPattern=15157721_TaupeGray_632391">https://www.only.com/de/en/on/.....rs&#038;am</a></div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/blazers/solid-blazer-15153144.html?cgid=on-blazers&amp;dwvar_colorPattern=15153144_Black"><a href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/blazers/solid-blazer-15153144.html?cgid=on-blazers&#038;amp" rel="nofollow">https://www.only.com/de/en/on/.....s&#038;amp</a>;</a></div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.only.com/de/en/on/womens-fashion/blazers/classic-blazer-15157722.html?cgid=on-blazers&amp;dwvar_colorPattern=15157722_DarkGreyMelange_631831">https://www.only.com/de/en/on/.....rs&#038;am</a></div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.street-one.de/All-Styles/Kleider-Roecke/Nadelstreifen-Etui-Kleid-night-blue.html">https://www.street-one.de/All-.....-blue.html</a> <br /></div><div><br />
