This looks great on you, Chris! I had a dress in a similar style a few years ago and literally wore it out. A casual dress like that is a fantastic winter find for work from home life....great score!

Suntiger...thanks for the enabling I'd do burgundy shoes/bags with grey too!

lisa p you are SO right about dropped shoulders being a very personal choice. I like them on me because they tend to give a little width to my moderately narrow shoulders and some visual weight to my upper body to balance my wider thighs.

Aquamarine, you are exactly right, the rust one would be great with beige. If I had those beige pieces (I do not), or had a 3-6 month return window (30 days only) so had time to look for them, I'd probably grab the rust dress also.

Thanks Jane. Wearing sneakers with a dress is a totally new thing for me, but so is this style of dress....hmmm....food for thought!

Roxanna, good to go with your own instincts on dropped shoulders. Interesting that you and I are both pear shaped but have different preferences in shoulder fit. Vive la difference! Thanks for the info on the top...I just did a search and they don't seem to have it this year.

Thanks Joy! Would not have though of rust with pink/blush, but that's probably cause there is literally zero pink/blush in my wardrobe.

I like the grey on you and especially with the sneakers. I have a rust dress that I plan to wear with pink/blush in the spring. I like it with my long pale pink cardigan. Now I am wearing it with greys or navy to avoid the Halloween look.

@Chris - last year Lululemon had an On Repeat Mock Neck which was the top version of this dress, which I bought.

Thanks Christina! I tend to avoid orange and black even IN October, unless going to a Halloween party where I would rather put together a real costume. Even without the holiday connotations I find it a bit too harsh a combination....or maybe I should say bold instead of harsh....some people LIKE bold of course!

Roxanna, what top are you saying you have? Is there a top that is similar to this dress? lisa p may be right that you might find the shoulders on this a bit too big for you. It IS designed with dropped shoulders and is definitely NOT tailored or shaped. I'm used to having shoulders a bit loose to get the fit I need in upper thigh in a lot of items but I also don't have super narrow shoulders. You would take a smaller size than me, I think, so it might work out.

lisa p thanks for commenting on how bright the "rust" is... I saw that color but completely ignored it when saw the grey ones. so good to hear Thanks all for the kind comments, and I'm glad to know

Roxanna - having seen and tried on this dress (in the pumpkin colour), I think you may indeed feel a bit swamped in it. It's not very shaped /tailored. I'm calling it pumpkin because in person, it's really quite a vibrant colour - more orange than a true rust. I was also concerned about footwear and leg wear colour if I bought it - I could only imagine wearing it with black, which might look a bit Halloween-ish. That's just my own fears though.

Thanks so much for this Chris! I have this top and was considering the dress for weekend wear.

I am a small shouldered pear.Angie/Chris - do you think that this dress would be too big up top for me? I notice the shoulder seams already are meant to hang down below the natural shoulder line, so I am assuming yes? I don't want it to look sloppy up top on my small frame.

Thanks all for the kind comments, and I'm glad to know the size 10 looks good. As far as grey vs. rust ("heathered rustic clay"), I did consider the rust color, because as several of you noted, rust is a color that looks great on me, and I do love it. I also do sometimes buy duplicates of an item in different colors, and this dress certainly seems a candidate for that.

The main reason I chose grey has to do with what supporting acts I already have. Based on the weight of the knit I would likely wear it from late October through early April. Grey is a mainstay of my wardrobe for those months, and I have lots of choices for footwear, coats, scarves, to go with it. If I went with the rust color, I would not have as many choices, especially in deep winter when all my footwear is black. With this color of rust I have a feeling pairing it with black booties/black tights might look a bit Haloween-ish. I also don't have a fall/spring coat that would work with it except a black trench coat. I have a feeling the color would not look all that great with my cinnamon coat because it's close but not quite exact. I usually do NOT like the way jackets look over dresses on me, my waist gets lost, so I'd prefer a longer coat. For supporting acts I'd want boots/coat in a light brown (a warmer version of what the model is wearing), or grey, which are all things I'd like but do not have. I have light grey booties but they are perforated so no good in cold or rain or snow. I don't mind buying new pieces to go with an item, but it seems like a bit of a risk here since it can take me a long time to find footwear that works for me. Lululemon has a 30 day-return window, so I'll only get two weeks of possible wear before I run out of return window, and I have no idea how long it will take to find supporting acts for the rust color. I also have a long history of hardly ever wearing dresses so buying a color that won't seamlessly fit into my wardrobe does not give help in giving me a push to wear dresses more.

All that being said, this type of dress could be PERFECT for my lifestyle, and there is a part of me that wants to by both colors, so I'll listen to any enabling :-) but it seems very impractical. A rust sweater seems a much better choice if I want more rust items, and I could wear that now while I looked for those new supporting acts. I have in fact been looking for one.

Hereforthecake, based on initial try on it seems VERY comfortable, but I haven't worn it outside the fitting room yet.....

I like the length and dress on you. It would be great in those transitional seasons.

This is a really nice dress. It fits well and you look good in the grey version although the rust version would look great on you, too.

It’s a very nice fit. I’m just wondering, did you consider the rust colour? I know it’s one of your best shades

I’m on my iPhone so will keep this brief. I’ve been wanting a new casual modern dress and Angie’s statement that this dress is good on curvy petites caught my attention. Tried it today in grey, andLiked it enough to bring home. Pics 1+2 are size 10, 3+4 are size 12. The pockets on the 10 we ever so slightly pulling open, hardly noticeable but enough to not bother trying an 8. The 12 is too big overall. On the 10, the length is just below the knee. How does it look? I’m 5’ 1” and wondering if it’s a tiny bit too long.

Thanks for all comments and suggestions!
