Okay, so keeping the smaller dress.
Returning the shirt.
Cinnamon Fern I think I might have pulled the skirt down a bit as a messed with the shirt. It still has the tags on it, but I was planning to keep it.

I think the dress looks lovely, from what I can see. It IS very difficult to find good fitting dresses (for any body type!) so don't despair. You're doing great so far.

I don't think the shirt does you justice. It's too baggy and overwhelming. Since I have a tiny nonexistent bust, I think you should take suggested solutions from those who know what they are talking about in that department!

I vote get the dress in the smaller size, and leave the shirt.

BTW, is that skirt hitting too low on your waist?

Body transition = I had a baby 9 months ago. I am still losing the baby weight. I gained more than I would have liked, but I was on limited activity from the end of the first trimester forward. Even as I do lose the weight, SURPRISE! My body shape is not the same. For example, my tummy is way softer than it has ever been. I swear my hips have grown wider . . .

We are also hoping to have a second baby in a couple years. That means I will go through body changes again. So nothing I purchase clothes wise is an investment piece as I will not have it even three years, much less five.

Shoes, boots, jewelry, those I can work with. I started trying to wear scarves. I think I will like them better when it cools down a bit, but I do like the look of them. This surprised me, actually. When am done nursing, I will look at bags as I need the "industrial" Medela bag for it's strength and room.

How about a silkier buttondown? I know everyone loves crisp structure, but frankly I feel much more at ease in a silky shirt and also find the gaping issue to be less because of the drape.

Really hard to tell on the dresses - I think smaller is better.

Sorry if you've said this, but when you say you're in transition body-wise, what do you mean? Just so I can be more helpful!

Dress #1 looks perfect.b great fir and very flattering. The button down just looks too big. I really think something more fitted . I agree with K Can Shop.

Black is hard to photograph, but from what I can see, #1 (the smaller size?) looks better than the second one. How does it feel?

The shirt does seem rather voluminous. Personally, I can't make most button up shirts work for me, although I like the look on others. They just feel and look wrong and stuffy, even when the fit is good.

Black is so hard to see! Both look very nice to me. The white shirt is very pretty, but it looks like it is a little baggy to me. Could you go down a size? I know exactly what you mean about fitting over the girls. I always have to put a safety pin in my placket between the top of the girls button and the bottom of the girls button to keep it from gaping, but it is worth it to get my shirts a little more fitted in the shoulders and waist. I have one in the top that I'm wearing today (I posted a WIW for it), so you can see that the pin doesn't show. An irritating compromise, but one that I haven't found a way around. It seems like shirt makers just don't cut for the variation in cup size until you get into $200+ shirts.

#1 Black Faux Wrap dress in the new size (with Spanx underneath)
#2 Black Faux Wrap dress (this time also with Spanx for comparison)
#3 Classic button down white shirt - with the seaming, I had hoped for more waist definition. I fits across the ladies without gaping, and it fits over the hips. I feel like it sort of swallows me, though, so i am not sue I could ever wear it untucked.
#4 Same shirt as in #3 but tucked in.

While I am shopping for a transitional body, so I don't know if I will be able to wear these in a year, I really don't want to compromise. I want to buy nice quality, good fitting clothes while I am in them. I want to feel good about this transitional body. I am trying to build a very small workwear capsule to get me through fall, so each piece really needs to work.

I am starting to think that while in theory pears should wear dresses, it is much harder to put into practice than I thought.

Should I keep any of these?
