I went and compared the rises between two pairs of jeans from the same mfg, one labeled high rise (but seems mid-rise on me) and one not (but which fits as I expect a mid-rise jean to fit). There's only a half-inch between their rises. I also grabbed an older pair of NYDJs labeled high rise (which I don't wear often because of the ribcage issue), and they are 3" longer than the other "high rise" pair. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Guess we're going to have to chalk it up to the wild world of clothing manufacturers.

I recently bought a pair of jeans- Citizens of Humanity Skyla- that’s labeled mid-rise on the CoH website and high rise on Nordstrom. Same wash, same rise measurement listed on both sites. Marketing I guess? I won’t buy jeans online these days if the rise measurement isn’t listed. I can’t comfortably wear anything above 10” unless I’m not planning to sit down.

Yes, I have! I have a short waist and bought jeans that were supposed to be a mid-rise and they are definitely a low-rise. Why oh why can't women's fashion makes agree on a common terminology for things so we have half a hope?!?

I also really wish rises were always listed in inches-it would save me a lot of time. Right now I’m only replacing pants by rebuying my favorite pair.

I sometimes have found supposed "high-rise" jeans not to come up to my navel. There's a ton of variation out there. Madewell's high rises go up so high on me, even in the petite version, that the jeans are practically halfway up my back. I just can't do it.

For me, 11" is the max I can do without it becoming uncomfortable.

An 11- to 12-inch rise is perfect for me, although I rarely run across a 12-inch rise. I often see pants with rises of 9.5 to 10 inches sold as high rise. For those with a short torso, that probably works a treat as a high-rise pant, but 9.5 inches on me is a pant that puts a little too much of me on display when stooping or bending over!

I find the label mid and high rise used very inconsistently. 11 inches it very high rise for me, fwiw.

That would be high on me! The back rise though is the most important for me.

I have noticed this. In fact I can’t find pants that come as high as my naval, even those labeled “ skyscrapers” or said to be high rise. For me this is a good thing.

slim cat, I think that's the thing for me -- even looking at pics I feel like I have to really guess when a rise described as "high" is going to be as-described. It's worse when sites don't list the rise measurements! I feel like that didn't happen even a few years ago -- high rises were always _actually_ high.

I wonder if some of it is that since high rises are more fashionable now, rises somewhere in the borderlands that would previously have been listed as medium (to increase sales) are now listed as high (to increase sales)....

Some 9.5 - 10" labeled as high rise. It depends on brand of jeans/pants I guess.
Descriptions in generals becoming more confusing to me - like the pic looks like mid-rise and labeled high.

Hmm, is this a particular designer? I have not noticed this but haven’t shopped for new jeans in a long while (just repeats of current favorites). I’m intrigued if rises are becoming more moderate though because I cannot do a rise higher than about 10.5” — mayyybe 11” if it’s cut right.

Angie's sit down test made me think about something I've noticed in "high rise" jeans and trousers over the past year or so -- items labeled high rise used to be reliably over my navel & up to the small of my back (and due to my short waist, often up onto my ribs and digging into my diaphragm when seated). But now I have three pairs of jeans/trousers labeled "high rise" that come just to my navel and well below the small of my back -- I'm wearing a pair now, the Warp + Weft MXPs: http://https//warpweftworld.co.....ging-steel

The front rise on these is around 11", which to me is much more in "medium" rise territory, but maybe my definitions are out of date.

Has anyone else noticed this?
