With the caveat that I don't think of myself as low-volume anything, anywhere, Birkenstocks feel like I'm wearing brown paper lunchbags on my feet, and Mephisto Helens fit well on the smallest or next-to-smallest buckle setting, so my experience *might* be relevant.

Sandals on Think! brand's "Soso" last/footbed works well for me. They look dainty in pictures, but I've walked across cities in them and they hold up extremely well. None of their other lasts/footbeds work for me.
http://www.zappos.com/think-86522-grey
http://www.6pm.com/think-soso-.....ater-kombi
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/th.....al/2969903
My black ones with a heel strap are the most versatile, but my slip-on versions stay on well enough that I would have no problem walking quite far in them if necessary. The slip-on ones are my default lounge footwear, and there are days when I clock a few thousand steps just cooking and doing laundry. (I suppose that's not technically lounging!) Definitely worth the work of tracking down to try on.

They aren't particularly cushiony, but are so well designed and constructed that my picky feet feel very good in them for long periods of time.

These Ecco Damara sandals feel like having 2 clouds strapped to my feet. The top strap is adjustable, which makes all the difference on my very low volume feet.

Yes, I did end up getting BOTH colours...

Low volume feet here. I'll echo the suggestions for Noat (check out the reviews for their Paris sandals), Ecco and Munro. Also found a cushioned pair of Via Spiga's at The Rack that are modern and simple; don't know their name. Naturalizer can work and often comes in narrow widths. I also found Sofft Mirabelle's extremely comfortable for walking (Nordstrom), as well as the Marc Fisher Alysse (on sale at Nordstrom). This was a good year for sandals! For me to walk long distances, flat leather soles are out. I need a rubbery sole and cushioned footbed or insole. Good luck!

I ordered a few of people's suggestions to check out. So far I have received the Naturalizer Lanna in black and white/silver. The fit is very good for me and the shoes are comfortable in around-the-house wear.

In principle I prefer the white, but the silver element is a bit limiting in that I usually wear gold jewelry and am fussy about matching up.

Low volume narrow feet here. Hard to find shoes that stay on, let alone sandals. But this year I found the Ecco Jab Toggle sandals and they are awesome. They adjust with the bungee thing to hug the foot just so. They're not dressy but I've been wearing them ever since it got warm and they are super comfy all day, no matter how long the walk.
Link here: http://www.zappos.com/ecco-jab.....xtile-sole

Picture below is how they look worn (because I thought they were fairly ugly when I saw them in the store but then I tried them on anyway and now they're my favorite sandals).

Last year I bought great sandals and one of the reasons why that I they work so well for me is that at the front it they don't have one straight, but two crossed straps. I figured out that made all the difference for my feet, because I always struggle with open toes sandals that have one straight strap only. Perhaps you can try if that could help your issue?

My sandals are Clarks Viveca Zeal and they came in black which I have, white and coral. I was so impressed by them that last year I had a whole thread about them. If we have any summer at all here this year, I'm even thinking of buying the white ones too.

The other reason why they are so incredibly comfortable is that they have soft footbed and tiny heel, which keeps the sandals in the flat shoes category. The foot does not slip forward, but the 'heel's is enough to make difference to my back. Super, super comfy.

ETA: I just looked up at amazon.com and they are showing metallic version which looks lovely.

Yes, Sole Society's Nancie gladiator sandal. Currently all three colors are waitlisted on the site, but hopefully will be back in stock soon. I've logged lots of miles in these sandals over the past two seasons. I wouldn't have given two pins for their longevity past one season, but I have been very happily surprised by their durability. I have this sandal in British tan, and just put in my name for an ecru pair. Fingers crossed!

Yes. Sole Society's Nancie gladiator sandal. Finding shoes that fit is tough for me because I have long, narrow, low volume feet. Life DonnaF says, for sandals, it's all about the straps. I wouldn't have given two pins for the durability of these shoes when I bought them, but they have turned out to be workhorses for me; a great walking shoe. Over two seasons of wear, they've logged lots of miles. I see from the website that all three colors are wait listed, but fingers crossed they will get more in stock. I have my name in for a pair in white (I have the British tan).

I have really narrow heels. My foot is more medium volume on the whole, though (higher arches and regular width forefoot) but I have indeed experienced that slipping forward problem in sandals in the past, so I know whereof you speak. Still, what works for me might not be good enough for you, but might be worth a lookout just in case.

I got these Fitflops on the advice of a friend who said they were helpful for plantar fasciitis (which I have and which was acting up.) Most Fitflops do not work for me as they are too wide, but these have adjustable buckles. I took my smaller size (the larger size was too floppy!). I've been wearing them for a month and love them. Wear them all day, about 10,000 steps most days. Obviously, they're a super casual shoe only.

The Sofft (which comes in multiple colours) might be too wide, but it just might work. It's a super comfortable sandal and a little dressier than the Fitflops.

The Eccos might also be too loose on top; they're verging on that on my foot but not in humid weather when my feet swell a bit. I find them not quite supportive enough in the arch, but they're nice and cushy and very lightweight.

I have extremely narrow heels, so slipping too far forward in shoes is an issue for me. I've worn these Naot's traveling (so lots of walking), and they work well. Excellent arch support, and the velcro strap lets me cinch them much tighter than most sandals allow.

I just have been issues finding the comfort city walking sandal too. I had a pair of Mephisto Helen's which are a narrower footbed than most Birks. I ended up returning because the pleather type strap material just dug into the tops of my toes. Yesterday I received the KorkEase Myrna. They only have an adjustable ankle strap but the footbed is narrow and I don't slide forward. I wore them for 4 hours around the house and then dog walking and they seem to be keepers. Sorry no pictures- I need to read up on creating finds. I'm going to take a look at some of these others too-good luck!

My feet are low enough volume that I need heel cups in most shoes. For sandals to work for me, I generally need buckles or laces, the more the better. My Fly Londons are gunmetal gray and I shortened the laces so they look a bit better than the Find. Angie has the Shellys London in white. I don't feel the height of these babies at all; it's so weird. Both of these sandals are fairly supportive.

I love Naot sandals and although some are too high volume for me I have found several that are good for my low volume feet.

The first two pairs both come in a million colors (I have the Dorith in teal and Ashley in red.) and are very comfy on my low volume, flat feet. The cork footbed conforms to your foot after a while (like birks) which helps the foot stay in place as well.

I also have the gladiators which are a bit more high volume but the gladiator style means they stay in place fine.

I pretty much live in Naot sandals (I have 5 pairs!) during the summer though so I may be biased....

Have you tried Naots? The reviews say they're narrow, but I think they're comfortable. My feet are medium width but low volume. I think of them as sleeker Birkenstocks. So not high fashion, but not bad looking. I'm visiting my mother and have walked a lot today. And my feet feel great.

I have a weird problem with comfort sandals -- my low volume feet always slide too far forward over the edge of the shoe bed, even if they are the same size as the shoe bed (instead there will be a space at the back.)

I think I need a lot of adjustable straps to make my foot stay back.

Anyone found anything stylish and walking -oriented? Like for 4-5 miles of city walking?

Attached are finds that I mostly had to reject.

Best fit so far and the only one I kept (the first): Sol Sana, which are not a comfort sandal and have a completely flat footbed -- I tarted them up with a Dr. Scholl's ball of foot and arch insert for each. I kept them but would still rather something a bit more cushiony.

Oh yeah, I have also tried the Birks Gizeh shoe, thought maybe the toe bar would help, but no.
