I have quite a bit of green in my wardrobe. It started with a green bag and has expanded from there. I find trying a new colour in an accessory the best gauge of whether a new colour is for me.

@Jaime and Irina — sorry for not responding to Irina before. Good point as to saturation and matching value. It’s a better way of stating it—I like to match color values. And as a winter I tend to look better in saturated colors. I think this may be why I’m struggling with green, as non-saturated greens are bright. I can’t see wearing bright green head to toe. I like Irina’s idea of silver with neon. I’ll have to look for a silver top. @Jaime Last year, I wore the Rundholz pants and the Dries van Noten trench to the Santa Fe Opera with a black Mexican blouse embroidered in greens. It was high contrast, but felt right for the occasion and I felt fab! I wish I had photo.

Avicennia I wish I could see you in your highlighter neon Dries coat and Rundholz. They sound fabulous! I do like Irina's thought to match the color value, which makes sense with your low contrast goal.

My successful greens are sage green (summer) and hunter green (winter). Sage pairs well (IMO) with creams, pale blue, white. Hunter is worn with navy, brown and bright colours . . . think hot pink, peacock blue - it appeals to my eccentric side. Best wishes to all.

You all are the best. There are several important suggestions and insights here. @Angie and JAileen, because of my winter coloring I own no olive pieces. But I could possibly wear an olive bottom with a more saturated green top. @Star thank you for the suggestion to the Vivienne files. I haven’t looked at it in years. It’s a good reminder to do so. @Sal, Star and JAileen—green blazers and cardigans with a grey or blue column of color below. What a great idea! It feels like a no-brainer, I had mentioned how I don’t mind colorful OK outerwear. But it took you all wonderful ladies to suggest to me that I could wear a colorful blazer! So now, if anybody sees green blazers or cardigans, please let me know!!

You wouldn’t be happy contrasting the greens with white? Like in the pretty plant that is your profile pic?
Also I just rechecked your profile and see you like Phryne Fisher, as do I. Maybe check her outfits for green?

Avicenna, do you have olive pants, olive topper, and olive tops? Sounds like your greens would work well with OLIVE. Quieten the neon, complementary with the greens, work with your neutrals, and perhaps with grey or white footwear.

I have added a few greens pieces with mixed results. I struggle to mix greens together - I prefer them with a neutral or a contrasting colour.

The blazer I mostly wear with white, navy, denim and cream. It clashes with my other greens.

The bright pieces get worn with navy and charcoal and denim and white. I don’t love them worn with black.

The patterned pieces get worn with white almost exclusively. The white and green top was nice with chocolate pants - which have been removed due to wearing out.

So navy white and denim are my most favoured colours with the green.

The examples are with cream contrast whereas I personally will focus on combining predominantly blue and green pieces only.

I actually commented on this post that I would split the creams with grey, black and brown.

How do you feel about mixing greens and blues? I have lately become drawn to this combination, encompassing all shades of blue and green including light and dark, and cool and warm. You can choose the level of contrast you are comfortable with within the full spectrum. You already have a lot of blues. These will work well with grey as well. I will try and find the example I saw of this on the Vivienne Files blog that made me fall in love with it.

Hi Fabbers! Angie’s blog about green motivated me to pop in for some advice about color and contrast. I have come to understand that I’m a low contrast dresser. I prefer column of color/tonal outfits from top to bottom, with a slight bit of contrast in a scarf or pair of shoes. My wardrobe is full of gray, silver, black, cobalt blue, light blue, and navy. I love my wardrobe, it’s cohesive and it’s easy to dress in the morning. That said, I do love color. And, I don’t mind contrasting outerwear—one of my workhorses is a highlighter neon trench from Dries van Noten. I’d like to add a bit more color to my main wardrobe, maybe green. But I’m struggling to go about it. My few green tops are orphans and green bottoms are hard to come by. I have a pair of highlighter neon yellow-green pants by Rundholz, but there are only so many times you can dress like that. Any and all thoughts appreciated!
