Ornelia the reason my confidence in this job is so high is that there are 3 reps that were from his previous employer who have been at the new company for over a year each who all report working less hours , making great money and loiving their jobs. Since these were mediocre sales reps who didn't make it at the previous company and my husband is a top sales rep my confidence in this company and what it can do for my husband is strong. This also explains why my husband's new manager is so excited to have him, he proved himself by his 7 years with the previous company compared to the other reps he has who lasted mere months... The new manager keeps saying he doesn't currently have a heavy hitter and he is so excited to have my husband. I think anyone can see a father of four has a lot of motivation for him to do well. Even if he is in the middle of the pack instead of the top he will be doing well. Selling home improvements (his previous job) is a tough job compared to this new one selling water purifcation systems....Just having a smaller price point means selling more often....which is fantastic for any salesman... Going two weeks runnig from 10am to 11pm with nothing to show for it was not uncommon in home improvements and psychologically tough! There is just so many reasons why this is a better fit and I could go on and on over what wasn't working in the previous company, but looking forward is always better!

I am so, so happy for you all. For MrTL65, for your family and of course for you.

I can relate to some extent as we've moved here because of the specific job and after the situation at Mr. O's last job was becoming unbearable. Since my husband is the only one one carrying the burden of providing for the material needs of our family right now, I understand many emotions that are going on in your family: his reserve with the early signs and your thrill because of the opportunity and more importantly because he seems to have found what he as a professional deserves.

If I was Mr TL65, I would keep on the side of caution for a while as there are writings between the lines that have to be uncovered in any new work environment. But as a life partner of a hard-working man who essentially only needs productive environment so he can show what's made of and what he can do, I understand you Tracy Liz. While It's not insignificant of course, I think it's not even about the money or benefits -- work is much more than that. When I see my husband being happy with what he does and seeing the difference he makes, when he goes back to work even after the holidays - that is priceless.

Will show pics of the tree once he installs it... It's football day right now, but he hopes to put it up afterwards....

Working for a family company had it's benefits. like yearly vacations and the use of teh company beachhouse... that did not make up for some of the chaos.... Now he is working for a national company with systems in place that won't allow for the chaos that he had been dealing with.

I *feel* this difference, and am so glad for you and for MrTL65. Bf left a family-entwined work situation a few years ago, and only after a recent second job change does he seem really free. I'm happy to hear that things are working for you both so quickly.

Family companies or (even just collaborations) are an "interesting" challenge. Rules and expectations that function well (enough) in families collide with guidelines and systems that make businesses efficient and profitable. I've been both family-insider and employee/consultant-outsider of family companies, and the reduction in weirdness is a big part of why I'm content being willfully underemployed by a faceless giant.

Pics of the tree, if you're comfortable with that?

It's been two weeks, one week of training and one week out in the fiield doing sales and my husband is happier than i've seen him in 3 years....
As hard as it was to leave the dysfunctional family company that has become so dear to our hearts, it was time. The dysfunction was rampant and really making it hard for my husband to do his job. The fear of not making the same money kept him there, as everyone we saw leave are worse off financkially.
Our entire family is so happy for my husband, but he is still cautiously optimistic. We are all doing a happy dance around him until he can do it for himself... I've given him unitl the 15th to let it sink in and realize that this is a great thing, better hours and no loss in income, in fact the potiential for more and definitely more consistent. ! Can't wait til the 15th when he will have to deliver to us his happy dance in all it's glory! Heck he had three days off this frist week and still had a successful week.
While he may not be quite ready to do his happy dance, yet, he is so spunky and buying things he doesn't allow himself the pleasure of.... Yesterday he came home with a 10ft Xmas tree to hoist in the front yard and just couldn't stop smiling.... I keep thanking him for how hard hes worked for our family and reminding him how much he deserves this!
